buy a tube of engine assembly lube for the new bearings and let me know if the cylinders have a lip and i will bring up a ridge remover.
Really interested to see how the aliexpress bearings go, Why not use their pistons and rings too? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I have ordered some, but it depends on what they weigh compared to the standard items. More weight will put many times more load on the rods and bearings
I'm now watching this with great interest. What you're doing now is almost exactly what I need to be doing.
Friend of mine bought pistons from aliexpress for his MC22. they weighed exactly the same as the factory ones. Had his first race with them weekend before last and every thing seems to be running perfectly.
Good to know. I just found out that jap bikes from the last 20 years or so can have different thickness bearings installed at the factory... Have to get the crank out and read the codes off it & check against the manual to determine which bearings were used at construction. That is going to create a problem if I need undersize bearings as getting Yamaha ones is going cost a lot. Thankfully the FZR400 uses the same or very similar dimension bearings and journals on its crank and the colour codes etc are in the english service manual
Great work Linkin. The bike looks so damn good with the original scheme. Keep us updated on your rebuild! Your build is being featured in the BikeBuilds.net directory here: Linkin's FZR250R 3LN6 Build. We’re currently displaying only a reduced-size photo (similar to what you’d find in Google Images). We'd like to ask for your permission to publish the original full-size image with your build listing. If anyone would like to have a build of their own listed, just shoot me a PM with a link to the build thread and we’ll take care of the rest. If you wish to add your build personally, please feel free to peruse our Submit feature. No registrations required. Admins, kindly delete this post if deemed inappropriate. Al
Seriously, you have to love what you can get from China... look what turned up in the post box today. I only ordered these a week ago. I was expecting a long wait before I got anything. Now I have to get my arse into gear and pull two crankshafts out.
They even have YAMAHA 3LN00 stamped inside them. Makes you wonder if Yamaha sold the moulds to make such parts.
I'll have to clean up an original one and look at them side by side, but my initial impression is that you wouldn't be able to tell the difference
I intend to overbore, need to get a spare barrel to take to the machinist. Can you take measurements off your piston like the picture I'm sending? Can't find the info I want about the 3ln, hoping to overbore it to 52mm and run a different piston to get close to 300cc. pipe dreams haha. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
The standard pistons are only 48mm - that's a big big overbore. Do the skirts really have 8mm to lose? I was considering doing something similar with my 400 to fit 600 pistons at one point, but in my case it's better off getting the bigger barrels instead of overbore
Something I forgot to post regarding the conrod on number 3. It was installed backwards, compared to the other conrods and when checking against the FZR400 service manual.
