    Do you know what they signify or what their purpose is ?

    I think it means ISO metric. But I am digging deep into my memory so I could be wrong.

    Is it so you can tell if the bolts rotated (like when you put white marker on em)? Maybe a pilot guide for drilling lockwire holes lol, no idea.

    Perplexed to say the least, have seen these markings before.
    Could it be for a special tool to attach, I'm lost?????

    So we have answers from the more mature and experienced members of the forum with some interesting observations...

    A very logical ,but incorrect, answer being a pilot hole for lockwire....

    Some others being close but no cigar..such as thread type

    And yes, u will find them on Mikuni carbs ...which is where I first found them when I discovered the facts behind dimple screws myself not very long ago.

    Phil is on the right path :cool:

    So just to keep u thinking theres 2 hints....
    * They are not Philips screwheads
    * Special tool

    Oh i didn't see this thread earlier. Im a out of work mechanical engineer apprentice about to finish apprenticeship as of next week and if i remember correctly the dimple is a mark on JIS type screws. Japanese industry standard like a philips head but slightly different.

    There the ones that never fail to be shredded by your standard phillips head driver. Then you spend the next hour cursing at the screw and hitting it in the anticlockwise direction with a hammer and chisel lol :thumb_ups:

    Funny though even after all my experiences with this type of screw i still try to use standard philips head drivers (dont ask why) :headbang:

    Please correct me if im wrong :D

    It explains now why most of the screwheads were butchered on the Fizzer and some that wernt I had trouble getting a Philips to bite.....
    Ill be buying a set of these when Im back into purchasing mode ;D

    ok thanks for that. ill get some before i end up having to drill them out lol. can you get them at bunnings or supercheap or is it best to get them from that seller

    I would say Supercheap staff wouldnt even know what they were......Bunnings would be worth a shot .
    Places like Blackwoods would probably have them also even though they may be expensive there.
    I think the Vessel brand are a decent brand ..... hard to find a set without the normal slotted head ones included.
    The good thing is they work on normal Philips head as well......and another screwdriver or 5 on hand is always handy, especially if they are high quality.
    If I cant find any in the local places Ill be getting the ones I linked above. ( when I return from OS)

    Theres a few more listed on ebay now but fairly pricey..... but probably worth it for quality tools.

    JIS screwdrivers came today ..... great quality .... very "heavy" and nice gel handles ..... undid a screw on the carby with ease :thumb_ups:

    Do yourself a favour .... buy some ;)

    I visited 3 mechanics yesterday, hadn't caught up for awhile and had heard that 2 had purchased ultrasonic cleaners. Was curious to know and thought about ultrasonic cleaners, also asked if I could look at there jis drivers. All 3 had no idea what I was talking about, an apprentice at the 3rd shop over heard the conversation and had recently heard of them, asked if he had some, nop! Between the 3 mechanics was around 70 years of experience, needless to say I did not pursue it any further. Was a tad confused, these guys work on bikes for a living, why wouldn't they have the correct gear???? No further advanced.:confused:
