This is how fast: My brother invited me out to last nights test n tune at Willowbank, along with my other brother, and a couple of our mates. Best run of 14.977. Been in low to mid 15's all night, and my mate on his GSXR thou said, limiter it at the tree, slip the clutch on the green (well last amber, but was so focused on the launch I got my worst reaction time of .9) but it's the ET that counts! Captured every run on my helmet cam, so video to come. Mystery solved
55R 17F 130/??/17 Can't remember the profile. I didn't change tyre pressures or anything. But she is running out of fuel just before/at the traps. It needs a good tune. Probably a sync too.
Probably a 130/70/17. But thanks for the info. Since it's only about 400 metres, a larger rear sprocket would be better for drag racing (faster acceleration, less top speed) I have a 57 tooth on mine. Standard is 56 but seems impossible to get, only 55 or 57... got a 55 ready for the 3LN6 will see how it goes.
Well I tried 14, but limitering it worked cause I bogs down when you slip the clutch to 14 k, it's right in its zone as opposed to 14 dropping to say 9. I knew it was a good run even before I looked at the time slip.
Yeah I went for 55 to lower the revs a smidge cause it does mostly highway work. I don't need pickup that much. 56 is gone, dunno why. 57 would be a bit better. But I'm not looking to crack further times by modding it. Just tune and a few small adustments at punch it again. It's was just out of interest nothing serious. There isn't anything on YouTube ATM of one doing it, so I wanted to find out!
getting into the 14's is pretty good @Revolver , I think the best on a fizzer is around 14.5 , the guy I sold my old to managed 15.1 , his dyno'ed out at 41hp @dave , do you know anyone faster than 14.5 ? http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/standing-quarter-mile.5204/#post-58377
Thanks @kiffsta considering it was my first time at the track, there may be a little more in it. Well as can be seen on the time slip, it was getting progressively cooler so that may have knocked .050 off. My fastest till then was 15.168 I think the launch and good changes made .14 sec off and the temp did the rest. It's a fact that colder temps make power. But as @Linkin alluded to, what sprockets and tyre was he running? What else was done to it? Carbs could be re jetted, etc. There is a lot more tuneability in the CBRs thanks to aftermarket parts than Fizzers. I doubt rider only could achieve 8 tenths off alone from my time on a 250. The power isn't there to "make up" for any mistakes like litre bikes. Not that I'm claiming to be Brett Stevens, but mine is a daily ridden bike, bog stock, and in need of a tune, geared slightly higher, in good conditions with a string bean riding it....
The times sound about right. Dug into the archives and found this: http://2fiftycc.com/index.php?threads/zeal-250-turbo-article.5806/#post-63713 Well, after all the rumours and passing comments as to the existence of a turbo Zeal it seems that Rapid Bikes have tracked it down and done a little expose in their latest September 2006 issue. I've scanned it up just for everyone who at one point thought about doing something a little crazy with their FZR's. Click on image for full article (single A4 page ~350kb jpeg). Not many details on the mechancials but it appears to have used quite a few FZR600 parts to beef up the engine & clutch to take the increased power. Oh, and as for power... 105 RWHP (45ft-lbs) @ 18,000rpm w/ 18 psi boost. 12.7 second 1/4 mile @ 118mph. Does that help
Not for a little while. She needs. Major service with a snip of the leads, can chain adjustment and a carb tune. All stuff I have no idea how to do. :-S
Couple of things based on what I learned dragging at Gunnedah last weekend: Hold revs at 14-16k (peak torque/power) before the christmas tree counts down Try not to let the revs drop below peak torque (14.5k rpm - a bit hard I admit, especially on a high revving bike) Slip clutch slightly on the starting line & use rear brake to stop the bike. Release brake when your light goes green Rev out to redline in all gears. Especially at high speed, if revs are below peak torque you will accelerate slower Tuck in behind the screen after you launch (less wind resistance) - arse right in the back of the seat, elbows touching knees Also one thing I discovered with the fizzers is that to actually open the throttle fully, you need to shift your grip forward, otherwise your wrist/arm hit the tank and prevent you from getting the throttle fully open. So get your launch revs (14-16k) then quickly shift your grip forward. When you launch, release rear brake, slip the clutch, throttle wide open. Change gear when you run out of revs. Also check the bike and make sure yours actually has a fuel pump. Mine was missing when I bought the bike. As for your video title, there were some... interesting... "related" videos on youtube
Haha, i bet there was. Haha. So what time did you do? Yeah I know about the tuck, I realised watching my mirror cam that I need to be tucked down further and earlier.
Was pleased to watch your racing exploits. Wish I could offer advise on how to achieve faster times....quicker take offs and so on, however I confess I have never tried this form of racing but I thought you did a great job and what truly gave it away was your joy at cracking into the 14th second sector, and that my friend is what is most important.....congratulations and perhaps
