Punch a hole in the gasket.

The head gaskets are missing material over the oil gallery. Can not simply just punch a hole.

Is there an O ring or seal supposed to go in there?

@Murdo No O ring. Just sealed by the metal shim head gasket. The gasket has a hole that acts as a pressure reducing orifice for the camshaft oil feed. The gasket that I purchased for a VT250 is a much thicker composite material and it does not cover the oil gallery feed.

Wemoto do not appear to have a listing for the head gaskets.

I’d give wemoto a call in the morning.. but sometimes they do have to import parts.. I doubt Honda will have any in Australia but if they do I’d just bite the bullit and buy them. With almost no international flights moving any ones guess how long parts from os will take to arrive.. I’m into the 6th week waiting for an express post Guzzi part from the USA

Here is an image showing the new gasket laid on the old. The problem are is the section that protrudes into the cam chain area. I am tempted to clean up the old shim gaskets and through them back in with Hylomar sealant. I have had good success with Hylomar in the past.

Check the price of some Genuine gaskets first... the differences in gaskets, though small, can be very important, especially with oil and water galleries. What appears to be a restriction may be required for effective cooling or oil flow/pressure.

Yes I am aware of that. I am not planning on using the new composite gaskets which are incorrect. The quick bit of research I did on the OEM gaskets is that they are about $50 ea, if you can actually get hold of them. Hence my thoughts on using the old shim style head gaskets with Hylomar sealant.

Now lets put this into perspective. I was not intending to pay more for the head gaskets than I paid for the bike!!!

It looks like my bearings and piston rings have finally hit customs in Sydney. Probably another week or so before I see them.
Wow, what a long journey for an order placed in Early feb. So it looks like I might have a chance of getting the Spada on the road before the end of May.

Found the correct head gaskets and ordered them a little while ago. Just waiting on delivery now.
Thought I would start be assembling the bottom end over the weekend.
Spent ages cleaning the cases, etc up and getting rid of all the old gasket material. A slow job.
I honed the cylinders and they have come up well.
I linished the crank and it also come up pretty good.
Dropped the cheap AHL main bearing shells into the upper case half ready to fit the crank. Fit seems ok.
Went to fit up the piston rings (again AHL) and it appears the oil ring set is designed for a slightly wider groove. Oh well, just run with the old oil rings (which were on the upper end of the end gap limit but usable).
Went to fit the conrod bearings into the rods. Bugger, they are a bit of a loose fit. Looks like I have been sent the wrong shells.

Does anyone know of some local stock of standard size conrod bearing shells for a Spada????

    Peter.

Why not use your original oil expander with the new rings?

Yes. I have had to use the original oil ring set (expander and 2 x side rails). a 3 parts are different on the Spada.
It looks like I hve been sent parts for an earlier VT250F and not the Spada (VT250L).
The crank pin on the 250F is 1mm smaller in diameter as is the big end on the conrods. No way to make the 250F big end bearings work.
