    I went to start re-assembling the top yoke, headlight and gauge cluster late this afternoon... all went well till I found more rough work.. Dodgey Bros tried to extend horn leads when they fitted the new handlebar and when it didnt work.. just tucked it into the headlight bucket... I was wondering where these 2 leads went.. till I chased them back.. grrr.
    When I took it all apart the headlight bucket seemed to be very tight up against the ignition switch.. so I had a look at it before trying to assemble it again... of course... it isnt the right one... no relieved area on the bucket where the Ignition is...
    So now I wait till my new (2nd hand) Headlight arrives from the wrecker...
    At least I tried the gauge cluster and it all seems to work... the tacho shows revs... all the correct warning lights... only the temp guage I didnt check as I didnt run it long enough... it looks much better with the correct gauges on.

    So previously I had ordered a cheap gasket kit for my NSR250R MC21 because a) the genuine kits seemed quite expensive and b) they're kinda hard to find. So the cheap eBay kit was purchased and installed. Some months later and the NSR has a super sticky throttle. If left for a while, the throttle would be stuck and require a fair bit of force. I opened up the carbs and the Chinese rubber seemed to have been turned into a sticky ooze by the petrol and had block all the jets and caused the needles to get stuck too! Took nearly 3 hours to properly clean the jets and carb. Hopefully she starts soon!

    Looks like it's been welded before, why not repair it? I've heard of the rusting frame, too.

    back from quick trip to qld to get header pipes made for friends 72 honda cb350. expensive with cost of fuel and food around a grand but bike now runs properly and as the parts could not be found an alternative approach was needed.very disappointed the magic straight bananas could not be found BUT to kill in time drove up the mount glorious road.MAGIC.

    Busy today getting ready for a track day, bleeding Euro hydraulic clutches and Brakes. Also tried to diagnose what my old 750's issue was at high revs....pulled a shitload of rust from pre filters and carbs! Guess that one is sorted (hopefully).

    Sorted out a few loose connections on the VTR... namely fan switch and front brake terminals.. so brake light works now... I ran it for 10 minutes waiting to see the Temp gauge come up and the fan come on... and it barely moved the gauge... even holding it at a steady 3000 rpm to get it warm... so it looks as though the same numpty that tried to fix other items removed the thermostat... yep that will keep it nice and cool.... grrrrr. Looks like the tank comes off as well as the air filter and base... just to get to the Thermostat... at least then I can put coolant in it rather than the water thats in there now.

    I went scouring the interwebs for a new thermostat for the VTR and nearly fell off my chair at the price.
    Ended up buying a good 2nd hand housing, thermostat and hoses from a wrecker on fleabay for under $40. A new thermostat only was $115.

    I looked for ages and coudnt find any mention of aftermarket... and I doubt there is one in mine to compare to so I was kind of stuck... at least this option gives me a good housing and sender unit as well as spare hoses...

    popped down to Aldi and picked up a couple of Dolly's , they are great if you have to move engines around and they are only $15

    Yesterday I parked my bike at the local shopping centre for 8 hours to find I had left the key in the ignition, no one stole it.. Makes me wonder if it isn't worth stealing, is it worth much at all... :-( I even left the helmet with it.

    OR they know not to steal it, because stealing a guys bike is like stealing a guys woman and visa-versa, and they know the own will look for their bike as if they have lost heir child and will want search parties coming after it...
