new garden shed up to lock bikes in. another slab going down next week for a big shed.had a call from the police to see if i owned a zxr. appears out of date plate was stolen and a similar bike was involved in 2 high speed chases and got away.previous owner must have notified rta as unregistered when i bought several years ago.anyway take old plates off as until handed in your name appears on the record.
Good stuff @DamnitLaverty . I wish they let us ride around without gloves on parade laps! "No glove, no love" rule applies in Australia. Easter Bunny didn't show, so I finished putting the front end back on the Vmax. Rebuilt forks, brakes, headstem and new front tyre. Have also re-installed rebuilt starter and will now upgrade some of the wiring and change shaft oil. New battery, plugs, oil and filter also on the "to-do" list before putting fuel in her and firing her up.
Got a bit of painting done over the weekend by starting just after sun up. GSX400r tank, sidecovers and tail piece. And the same for my CJ250 Honda. Stuffed after all that, need a weekend off.
Near as I can tell it's one of 3 in North America lol. There's the guy with the race bike on this forum in LA, one up in Canada and mine. If there's any others they don't get on the internet. Some dude on ebay in Texas was parting out an A-model as well. REALLLLLY uncommon out here. Yeah, I wasn't expecting to be out that long or going that fast or I would have had more than a helmet on. I expected a one-and-done parade lap, not 25 minutes of silliness. Holy crap that was a busy weekend for ya, Frankster! I spent my weekend buried in a Ducati that won't start- id be way happier if i could see progress like you did!
Yes, I have to finish the Vmax ASAP so I can get on with several other projects getting backed up. Not too hard to do all that stuff if you have the right tools and all the parts. Can't wait to take her for a ride! Hopefully, this weekend.
On Monday I bought a new bike for the trails, an 08 CRF450X. As much as I like Honda, they seriously lack in the enduro bike department with the CRF450X the only decent rego trail bike from them. From this era though, the WR was comparable and for the price, it seems like a nice deal so far although the oil is milky. I will order a new head gasket just in case. Overall in pretty good shape however the muffler is... muffed. It sounds terrible and is way too loud. The Rocket muffler is barely quieter over no muffler at all. The previous owner also had the idle turned up way too high. It was sitting at around 3500 RPM. I normally like a low RPM so I set it at 1600 RPM. Thankfully I have some mufflers from other CRFs. After some eyeballing I worked out I could scavenge the mid-pipe from the Rocket exhaust that came with the bike (the muffler just about fell off this bit anyway) and mate up the Moriwaki muffler from an 09 CRF450R (not X). I shortened the mid pipe by about 10mm with a hacksaw and all the original mounting holes should line up, and it should sound alright. Right now I'm just waiting for a exhaust pipe expander to arrive. I tried applying some heat to expand the muffler pipe to slide them together but I wasn't able to mate up the two pipes together. There's a few dings in the Moriwaki pipe but it's free and the only real cost was $30 for the pipe expander kit. Most of the dents get covered by the side plate too.
Head gasket is unlikely, these dirt bikes usually have an O-ring at the split between the cases that perishes, or the tell-tale hole at the water pump gets blocked and the leaking coolant from the worn seal pushes past the oil seal. Clean the hole and see how that goes.
Spent the day re stacking the spare parts department out the back to make some working space around the newly redesigned bike stand in the main factory I need a bigger ̶b̶o̶a̶t̶ shed
Have been doing a bit this week on the SRX250 frame. As I am basically converting it to a 3WP model the rearsets are different and have a different bolt spacing so I had to add material to both mounting brackets and then cut and weld the rear disc master cylinder mount. My TIG welding is getting better but I don’t think I will ever get the stacked dimes look. My poor eyesight and shaky hands don’t help My welds are not too bad, only the remote brake fluid reservoir to mount and the front pin mounts for the rear seat fairing to fabricate and weld on and I will be able to wet blast it, tidy up all the grinder marks etc and then paint it. Welded and ready for clean up and nuts welded on. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Looks like you could "almost" get the Bonneville out now... that would be a good one to take on the Texas ride
Sadly it needs plenty done ... its been sitting for 9 years .... tyres will be junk ( brand new Avons that did maybe 2klms), carbys cleaned , new fuel lines , Doherty hand grips have perished , clutch rebuilt as its stuck (common problem) , rear speedo drive is seized , rear brakes arnt setup , right fork oil leaked out of the bottom grub screw so that means handle bars off to refill , front brake fluid needs replacing , timing is out Plugs are out and I turn it over every so often I actually pushed it closer to the wall to work on the drag bike
Sounds like it has trade in squeaks... It really is worth too much $$ to just sit there for so long Drag bike is looking good though
Yea worth $$ as I only 'renovated' it and put things back to factory so its its fairly original I did toss up between it and doing the drag bike when the workshop urge came on a few weeks back But its getting closer up the 'to do' list .... if only the finances were abundant .... at least theres historic rego now
bunnings bbq for the vjmc bike club. good coin made and a grand will go to prostate cancer research at a local hospital.
Did a little bit today but the abnormally high temps just made it too difficult. After getting a lovely partial tan on my left forearm ( I forgot all about welding flash burns) I started wearing long sleeves and long pants and work boots while plasma cutting and welding. Loving my Plasma cutter but I need to get some spacer guides so I can be more consistent Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Did a little bit more this morning but it is now too hot... 42 degrees in the garage and 33 out the front so I give up for this weekend... Fitted up the tail fairing so I can fabricate the mounts for the front lugs. I need to get myself some 1.6 mm plate for them. Bunnings has it but I dont know that I really need a 600mm square piece... I guess I will use it at some stage.
I cleaned up and gave my FZR front calipers a detail today, painted them with a couple of coats of VHT Candy Apple Blue while i was aat it. I didn't have any gold for the disc pads so went with some VHT Red Caliper paint. Doesn't look too bad i think
