I stumbled across this thread which made for an interesting read.

    http://forum.cog-online.org/index.php?topic=31003.0

So many opinions on what works what doesn't etc... couldn't find a thread here specifically on this but what do people do? When they can't be replaced (or are expensive) ?

I read that oil of wintergreen stuff ages ago... but buying the stuff was expensive so I never went and did it.

i've had success using a cigarette lighter on the end of rubber hoses and whatnot to make them slide over a tough fitting.

definitely not the best way to do it (and never on rubber fuel lines) but itll do in an emergency (as long as you dont burn the rubber or totally melt it)

little haggard tip for the broke folks out there

I actually read about brake fluid recently, so I tried it. Soaked some boots overnight and absolutely nothing. Write that off the list!

I might try that. More than anything I want a cost effective process that works - some can be replaced cost effectively while some can't.
