That's one of the problems with the double walled original pipes. Seem to be a few about but most very $$$.
Ok, looks like my plans to get the CB400 back on the road reasonably quickly. While I took the rear sprocket cover off so I could get the starter motor cable off to replace it I had a look at what needed to be done on the frame where a poor welding job on the side stand area. It didn’t look too bad and was able to be done as it sat, UNTIL.......... I felt right underneath and behind and was horrified to find a reasonable part of the frame missing. Not impossible to repair but it means Engine out and some reasonable surgery to get it back to where I am comfortable riding it. So....if it is engine out then the frame will be blasted and powder coated so certainly not a quick fix. Plan B.... try and pull stuff on the SRX forward and finish it off quicker. It is hard to see from the pics as I had to use a mirror but it looks like the Patch they used wasn’t big enough so they just left it open. You have to laugh. I always wonder what the numpties that do that sort of rubbish think when they stop to admire their handiwork.
Yep, it won’t be too difficult a repair once the frame is stripped and I can get to it. It just made me change plans on the run. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro
Can you cut off the 'birdsh*t' and weld to a piece of tubing cut to fit around the frame, then weld the tube to the frame. Would make a 'factory' looking repair and be easy enough to weld with engine in place.
Not sure I can get the tip into the back of the frame with the engine in place... maybe with the TIG but certainly not with the MIG. There was barely enough room for the mirror, I couldnt get my phone in there to get a pic and it will be a much better job if the engine is out. The intention was to always, eventually, have the frame blasted and Powder coated anyway.. so it just means I wait a little longer to get to it.
Got the wheels and the calipers back from water blasting, wheels headed to powder coat, calipers painted myself with VHT. Struggled to find anything that was't read or gold!
I have found myself a frame that has been butchered for use as a race bike but both bottom rails are really good so next time I am in Dubbo I will pick it up... all for $60. Plan will probably be to have some sleeves machined up to fit inside the rail at both ends.....plug weld them and then run a nice bead right around...well that is the plan in my head right now.
Nice. I'm a fan of heavy flake and pearls. You might also want to check out the House of Kolor ice pearl range. Comes in a variety of shades and is just added to the clear coat. Here's a shot of a bike I sprayed a few years ago with violet pearl over black basecoat.
Tinted clear coats sound dangerous: light and dark spots depending upon how thick you spray. Too tricky for me.
That is why I like the DNA range of Candy Basecoats.. you spray a groundcoat (Pure Black in this case), then 3 coats of the Candy Basecoat colour and then layer up your clear...Also makes it easier to repair and match if needed.
Matching paint colours can be very tricky, especially with so much choice and custom artwork. You don't want to mark a panel on someone else's bike. Or be the spray painter who has to fix it!
Picked up a 2000 mode zzr250 from a lady who wanted it gone from her house , hadn’t been ridden in 4 years and only had 24k on the clock, She bought it new but stopped riding. It has been stored under a tarp so it was looking very tired. @Phil gave her a good clean up, fitted a new battery , cleaned the carbs and she is now a wee ripper. @Phil has claimed it as his own , I had a brand new Michelin pilot front tyre here in the shop so he went up and bought a new rear to match. I Will fit them later and she should be ready for a roady and rego. Enjoy your new bike @Phil
purchased for the cb250 k4 a reproduction front mudguard and 2 mufflers from david silver spares in the uk.
Looked at auctions for a motor. $381 for a motor in unknown condition, $881 shipping. Here's hoping I can talk UTA into selling me one of their formula SAE engines (yeah right)
Got the ZXR registered this week, went to ride it today, but it struggled to start - low fuel. So crossed my fingers and headed to the servo. Made it! Pumped up the tyres because it handled funny. Then off on the open road I went. About 20km later I notice the indicators not flashing right and it dawns on me: flat battery. Went to turn around and the bike stalls. Roll starting a zxr is tricky, you have to get speed up to shift into second (and higher), but started and ran, for a bit. The battery was too low... Headlights! Unplug them, push start, again. I made it to the driveway - cut out if brake or indicate, to much power draw. Felt like Apollo 13. :-D the lights brightened occasionally, so there's a bad contact or something in there.
Bought a daelim jf250 for parts with 13k on the clock owner said it cuts out, but I can’t seem to replicate it
