Pinned So what have you done to your bike today?

After barely having time to log in lately, today I got into the new spares bike & had a look at the carby,wasnt good,ended up having every passage, jet,even the diaphragm needles seized, rusted or blocked by what can only be described as liquid gasket & oil,the float needles & seats didnt survive, the slide diaphragms were not affected & look great,she will need some LiteTek love before action but will be like new. The motor doesnt seem to turn over by hand too well either, tomorrows edition- why its best not to store a bike outside with no spark plugs I can see a rebuild keeping me even busier.

Thats why I joined the forum, every 2nd google search I done in my early zxr days lead to this site you all felt like family once i joined.

 

I have inoxed the valves & down the plug hole, something dont feel right though & the gearbox feels a little clunky too, gonna open It up & have a closer look tomorrow.

 

I pulled the Yz250f carby apart. Yes, stale fuel and lacquer with a bit of corrosion in the bung, but that's why they're selling cheap... I should probably strip the whole bike and motor, but that's too much work and too expensive. Besides, I'll only have to strip it when it blows up, anyway. Racebikes! Actually, motorbikes!

 

Coming back from the city I noticed some strange things going on with the ZXR. Blinkers were real slow and sometimes stayed on. My suspicion of a flat battery was confirmed when the bike stalled and all I got from the starter button was the solenoid buzzing. 2 Roll starts later I got home and got the tools out. Battery resting at 11.8 volts and down to 8 volts or so when starter pressed. Got it out and on the charge now, but its probably toast. Short commuting for 6 weeks or so has taken its toll, I just hope it gets me to work tomorrow. Also fitted some new gel handlebar grips. It seems no one sells plain black gel grips (want to keep the standard look), so I had to settle for black & blue.

 

Is your bike charging, @Linkin? Regulator-rectifiers can be an issue, and if it went flat while riding, that points to it not charging. Hopefully the stator is still fine.

 

Sounds alright on the little VTR, just going off the video, but there is such a thing as too loud.

 

So, the plan was to move bikes into the shipping, but we had to remove some items, including the click-clack couch that might go in my room, except my room was full of stuff and needs to finish the renovations...
So, no motorbike stuff got done (except a check of eBay and gumtree), and I achieved this much:

 

I traded the Renthal triple clamp (and bars) on my CR250 for a stock triple with 7/8" bar clamps as well, which worked out well since I couldn't find the right stock clamps on eBay. This bike needs a completely new engine (top and bottom rebuild, new cylinder and head) so at least I can get the chassis ready to ride (except the forks, they need new seals but I'll use a seal doctor on them).

Recently I realised the Chinese-made NSR carb seals (that I now regret using, unsurprisingly) didn't respond well to fuel and gummed up the carb so badly. It took me hours to clean the jets because the needles would get stuck in the jets and make the throttle sticky. Well, turns out that even though it was nice and snapppy and as clean as I could make it, it's gummed up again!

Completely Flushed the coolant on the CBR, cleaned radiator, ran it hot, checked for leaks, tested the fan was working again, put some coolant back in it, fitted new rad cap, checked for leaks again, took it for a blat. All good so far.

Oh, and cleaned the rear wheel. Did a Micheal Jackson.

Went from black to white.

 

I went and played in the sand yesterday. There's a popular 4wd track going to a small township just north of here, through state forest, and there is a lot of soft sand trails with deep ruts. Sand is challenging on a bike, it is weird when you're driving in a straight light with handlebars turned because the front wheel just ploughs through the sand when it can't climb the wall out of the rut. I think someone is getting a wash today. And a new clutch seal, it was pouring a bit of oil out there. The fuel economy is disappointing at 20km/l, with a lot of highway riding, might drop the main jet size.

 

Had a bit better look at the spare motor today, it didnt feel very smooth when turning by hand last time i checked it,so i oiled up the valves and down the plug holes again, valves didnt look bent so I left it at that until tomorrow when i will tear it down completely, im betting its ring related. So then i pulled 2 lots of zxr forks apart, waiting on new seals, bushes & fluid to arrive.
