@Gen those pipes on your machine look great. What sort of performance did you get out of your machine?
It blew holes in OEM & China special pistons, "almost" melted a set, totally destroyed one after blowing a coolant line off mid track (unknown at the time) to get it's 1st timing slip in 5 years of trying, 110 mph,,in 5th (I forgot about 6th after boning up when 16,000 popped up on the tach, thinking I'd nailed 120 mph) I finally sorted the fuel delivery which dropped the EGT from 1350, to 850 a couple of years ago, but the power was too much for the clutch to handle, I had burnt a clutch aroma when going into 6th for the 1st time, and only managed 101, my co-rider Rob followed team orders & rode around the slip, stayed in 5th (again) to whoop my new record with a 107. Although I still recon it'll pull 125, the thrill has gone & Iv'e moved on
I am not advocating shorter headers to move peak power higher. The OEM CBR250 header length is not some optimum magic number. They wanted to put the collector thereabouts because of space/aesthetics or other issues. The calculated length for that engine would be very short, so the other choice is to use a harmonic that is a compromise. Some light reading: http://www.epi-eng.com/piston_engine_technology/exhaust_system_technology.htm https://www.musclecardiy.com/perfor...t-system-math-build-high-performance-engines/
A good mate (RIP Swiss) gave me an exhaust length/diameter calculation file, which I can share via email if anyone wants a copy
Went for a little ride on the Spada today through the Dandenong ranges. First ride since my accident in mid Jan. Thumb got a bit sore towards the end but otherwise ok. Good to be back on the bike again.
I, too, went for a post-accident ride to sus out the body. Yesterday I did a half hour trip to Rocky in the morning and half hour home at night: bike and I went well (bike was better after I pumped the tyres up). Took the bike to church and then for a ride afterwards. This time I noticed the wrist was a bit sore and pins&needles but good to be on the bike again. The VFR is running a bit rich, but I don't want to have to work on the carbies of that thing...
Yep. Just watched a little post race footage of Marc sitting in the pits. Looks like his arm might be a bit sore. Considering what the guy has been through, 7th wasn't a bad result.
Not a bike but my Land Cruiser Had an intermittent stumble for awhile now but finally replaced the plugs and leads Looks like some serious arcing going on there on #4 Plugs were overdue as well (access is terrible) Running sweet so far
I tried to sort out this mess today. What a bloody nightmare. I think I'd be better off just starting from scratch. Has anyone got any recommendations for a supplier for various plugs and associated electrical gear? Sent from my SM-G988B using Tapatalk
I trailered a couple of bikes to Mackay so I could go for a ride with a mate up there. Had a couple of jobs to help out with first, but with the afternoon came the rain. Sigh, riding in the rain is just miserable, so no go. But on the way home I thought the hills around Sarina looked good, so a quick Google, there's a road with good reviews, so I unloaded a bike and went for a ride. So pretty country, the road was ordinary until the climb, then it was quality road about 3km of tight and narrow climb. One advisory sign said 20km/h, I got a little caught out at that point and grabbed a bunch of brakes: some tight and sudden corners. The recommended road goes all the way to Marlborough, but I didn't have time for that, so I took a short-cut to koumala, which was half dirt road, but had a nice (wide bitumen) decent, which I took rather more cautiously. Once loaded back on the trailer, I FINALLY tightened the losse gear shift lever. I wonder how long until I adjust the brake pedal that is higher than the shifter?!
Narva plugs, available from Repco or such, simple spade-type terminal connectors (like in the picture), but mine started to perish after about 10years.
Not work, just drove. After all the disasters we got with the 3LN carbs/boots, a pic with some happy bikes
Changed the cam chain over on the cbr900rr. Engine sounds sweat now but clutch is still noisy at low idle speeds (rattle/clunk). Suspect clutch damper springs are in need of replacement. Anyone ever rebuilt a clutch basket and replaced these springs. The clutch basket is an expensive part and now hard to come by. Maybe there are clutch repair business that could do this. Any advice welcome. Peter.
Never done it myself but the idea is to drill out the rivers and remove the primary gear from the basket to access the dampers. The springs also rattle with age. I put a new basket on my ZXR250, it didn't help in my case. Never found the cause of the rattle, had a top end rebuild, clearances, can chain, tensioner and throttle balance, still rattled. I suspected the water pump/oil pump shaft had a broken fork but I never pulled the engine that far apart to check. When under load and moving it was fine.
Trailered home the GS1100 from a ride in the Border Ranges. Lost all electrics suddenly. Battery fine, fuses good, couldn’t find loose connectors. Sent mate on MV for trailer. Oh well, first time in its 125000 km and 37 year life. What happened to good old Japanese reliability! Now the search begins. Any suggestions? I’m not too good at electrickery. Too sudden for the old GS alternator/ regulator problem.
