Hey everyone, this is my first post on the forum. I have just picked up an FZR 250 2KR for $800 dollars. It was running a bit rough when I test road it, and basically wouldn't idle but I figured for the price it would be okay to try and fix up. After taking the bike home I removed the fairings and tank cover, then came the airbox.

Once the airbox was removed the engine ran a little better, but still unable to idle. I think the main issue is with the fueling system and carbys. Not quite sure what I should do as a next step. I was thinking about getting a litetek seal kit for the carbys and some new oil, air, and fuel filters. I'm hoping giving the carbies a good clean, new seals, and a tune should get the bike running smoothly again.

If anyone knows of a good place to get a set of fairings that would be great as the ones on it are stuffed. And also it needs a new instrument cluster fascia and highbeam bulb.
Is there any tips or other things I should look at?

I also managed to pick up some odds and ends off gumtree that had some electrical stuff, plus another motor minus the carbs, brake calipers and lines and another bike frame

    Don't buy an fzr... :p

Jokes aside, consider your budget, do the basis stuff that needs doing: oil, filters spark plugs (the colour of the plugs can help tell what the tuning is like), check spark leads, check wiring/connectors, valve clearances and carby clean. The litetek seal kit would be worth doing, not sure where he's up to in the repair for emulsion tubes. Then you can see what budget is left. DON'T GET PVC FAIRINGS! Injection moulded ABS can be quite good. But you might buy a 2kr project not running for $300 with decent fairings.

    Welcome to the forum.
    I don't think Litetek make's a kit for the 2KR carby's
Check the rubber intake manifold's for hairline crack's, start it and let it idle and spray some degreaser or carby cleaner on the intake manifold's, if the idle change's in any way then there's an air leak

Might pay to take the fuel bowl's off to while you're at it and check how clean it is in there.

Fairing's, depending on how much you have to spend

    Thanks guys :)
I'm definitely going to do the base stuff, and hopefully if i can get it to idle will check if there are any hairline cracks in the intake manifolds.
As for the fairings, i'm thinking of buying an unpainted set and spraying them myself, but have to see how i feel about it as i get closer to it.
Probably should have just stuck to a ninja 250 or 300 as a first bike :p

I should hopefully be able to get some photos up of the bike in the next few days too

For an extra $25, it might worth doing to prevent having to do it again later. Having said that, I think I only bought the A kit for the zxr. It is a bit more involved separating the carbies, so it depends how much time and confidence you have. The intake rubbers are worth checking, and any vacuum lines. At least you'll be familiar with your bike by the end, and you'll have a 45hp zinger!

    Welcome.
If your going to take the carbs off, then get both of the Litetek kits and be sure to give them a good clean in ALL the small holes. Setting fuel heights and syncing them is important too.
Doing half the job on old bikes just means you will have to go back and do the rest again later.
