    Hey

Phil and I picked up a FZR250 on the weekend, she is a bit tired and weathered. We chnagend the oil and cleaned the plugs and she fired up and ran and sounded quite strong. She is a tad rough, but Im confident we restore her to her former glory.

    Cheers

    Chris

Hmmm, fzr's. I have rebuilt the carbies twice, it finally ran sweetly today, but it's not consistent, I can hear a relay going crazy when I'm cranking it, I think there is some dodgy wiring in there, now to find it.

Does anyone have a 3ln wiring diagram ?

fight me yes sir indeed... but I think I have found the problem, I think I have a dodgy coil,  when I power the bike on and turn off the kill switch, I hear the exup valve open and close, then I try and start it,  the strater cranks but there is no spark. I keep flicking the kill switch on and off and eventually I hear a clicking sound from the head, after closer examiniation I can safely this is coming from the coils which I get spark, but its weak, time to source some coils I think.

Hi Jake, welcome to the forum. Best you make a thread and introduce yourself rather than dig up old threads. The dates on posts can be easy to miss :)

About the oil light, the 1989 3LN1 has an oil level sensor. So either the oil level is low (hold the bike level and check the sight glass under the clutch cover, right hand side of the bike) or it is clogged with gunk. That can happen after nearly 30 years of wear and tear.

I think the sensor is bolted into the sump. You might have to take off the exhaust headers to get at it, you definitely have to to get at the oil filter on a 3LN1. Take it out and soak it with kerosene or similar and watch all the gunk fall out of it. Others that have 3LN1's can give you more specific details @GreyImport

If your sight glass is not clear then your oil level sensor will be full of crap no doubt , as mentioned

Ive never cleaned mine so my oil light is on pretty much all the time .... but Ive ridden thousands of Ks like that

Have u changed the oil and filter lately? .... the only way to know the correct amount is in there is to measure it as u put it in .

Check here to make sure what model u have as filter position and oil level sensors changed to pressure senders in later models
