    Hi,

I have the opportunity to purchase a 1991 "2002" complianced FZR 250 RR Redbull bike. The price stands @ 3000 Flat with 22,000 Clicks on it... Should I go for it, the bike has been checked out and the condition is amazing!! but i'm just scared that maybe this is too much for a 1991!!

    Cheers,

It isn't too much provided the condition is good - which you said is true. If you take a look in bike mags fzr250's with relatively low k's on them sell for 4500+ usually. Given that none of these fzr's are newer than 1994, and most a bit older (the sellers almost always state compliance date rather than build date), $3000 is a good deal.

As an indication - I bought my fzr 3 years ago: $2000, 28 000 k's, previously slid down the road (causing cosmetic faults - no mechanical problems though), and was a 1989 2kr model.

i'd say get it, even if only for the yoshi pipe, they're pretty rare for any 250 esp. fzr's

The only thing I would be wary of is if he forked out the money to put an aftermarket exhaust on it he may have also decided to push the fzr to its limits a bit more too (personal impression - people who mod their bikes with 'performance enhancing items' also tend to also push them harder or more to their limits). But then again almost any sports 250 will have been abused to a certain degree. The pipe itself is worth about $800 or so (from what I gather - never looked into them personally) so that is a plus.

2 questions - I don't know how to find this out - but do you know if the engine has been retuned to suit the yoshi can? and How many k's?

umm...the bike has done 10,000 kms...which is pretty low...too low to be legit u reckon? I guess it depends when it was complianced.

In the bike it looks like he just cut it..and fitted it on...the yoshi pipe is small.

yeah i'm with sandog on this one, buy the bike - i paid 3500 for an '88 2kr (in tip top shape admitted) but could've done better (learners are easy meat cos we're so keen to get a bike and don't know ****!)

I'd suggest take it for a ride, and see how it works. If it all feels good then it may be genuine. There are some exceptional deals to be had if one looks or finds themselves fortunate enough to stumble upon them with extra cash in hand...

yeah if it looks the goods and passes a test ride and all the usual checks then get it, fzr's tend to go for cheaper than equivalent cbr's and zxr's i guess cuz they're not as common.
