Based on the experiences of Brad, it would seem that the fzr engines are identical (with the exception of a few mounting bolts). Below is a copy of his experiences (from viewtopic.php?t=635):

gday been reading this for about a year now finally got around to registering. found this site to be the best information as no written info seems to exist in aus! thanks!

just wondering if anyone else has tried this.

melted a piston so had to replace the lot. got a wreck and started grafting. several interesting points:-

change sump to earlier model. oil filter on the side of the 3ln sump strikes the side stand. oil ports actually the same inside 3ln sump just carries the oil to the filter and pressure switch via another port.

use the 2kr the carbs (at least the intake manifolds) the 3ln carbs MAY fit but the airbox is way different as is the intake manifolds. drill & tap (5mm hole, 6mm tap) for two bolts for both inside manifolds as 3ln manifold bolts are slightly offset. they have used the same casting just stretched it to offset 3ln bolt holes.

use the 3ln exup it is lighter and smoother bore. entire exhaust will fit into original brackets. use 3ln exup cables. even the muffler bolts to 2kr brackets

little bit of simple fiddling with connections like starter motor + cable mount. simple enough anyway

2kr black box works fine with new motor

2kr throttle cable and clutch cables are fine

if anyone else has tried this let me know I did it from scratch with no help (even lifted the bastard in myself no pully) so can't be too hard just wanna know any other experiences. japs are predictable- don't want to change the block just everything around it. the 3ln frame is actually built to suit the old motor!

just hope this helps someone as much as this site has helped me. cheers

ps got my seats recovered in leather and padded out my ass is thanking me heaps
