fuel is gushing from drain pipes ,the fuel pump continues to turn and just chucks the fuel straight in the drain tubes ,the bikes stood for 5 or 6 years is this just blocked carbs or something more sinister cheers gaz

Take the carbs off the bike and clean them one at a time. Once you have cleaned them, clean them again. Now you are ready to put them back on the bike, but wait.......................................... now clean them one more time 24 hours after the last cleaning. Why 24 hours? Because you'll do a more complete job of cleaning them the last time.

I'm not kidding. Clean them 3 times. Set your floats, pilot screws, needles, amd any rubber that even looks remotely pinched, worn, cut, or mis-shapen. Do a balance and adj the EXUP if you have it.

Lastely, clean the inside of your gas cap. Petrol vapor gums up too.

AS Tim said, the carbs would be all gummed up. The float chamber needle valves are obviously stuck if if petrol is overflowing. CLEAN CLEAN and CLEAN AGAIN.

    Good luck

look at the carb file of the 250 service manual
http://twisted-elements.com/fzr250/chapter04_carb.pdf page 4-1.. Item 17 is the floats and it is hard to tell but item 11 is the float valve.

To access these floats remove the square covers at the bottom of the carbs shown in this picture

If that was your video? the pump seems to be awfull noisey. Mine used to rattle the same at first switch-on for a few seconds but was usually quiet after that.

    edit: confirmed float valve
