Well I nearly fell off my perch, I phoned Fowlers to get hold of an air filter for my 91 3LN and was told £46
Is a pattern part available, and if so does anybody know where I can get one in the UK.

Just thought i'd chime in now about the home-made option costing all of $12 for 2. It's made by removing the paper element, but keeping the metal bits on the ends of it.

Go down to a friendly foam and rubber store (Clarks for us Australian's) and find some nice open cell foam. If you can get K&N or one of the equivalents to send you out a sample piece from one of their filters, then take that in and try and match it up.

I ended up using 2 layers of 6mm foam, then using the 2 metal pieces to squash the ends in to keep it all sealed and flat. Don't forget to liberally apply the foam filter oil and massage it all the way through. ;)

PS. £46 is about right... actually i think that might be cheaper than what i got quoted! £46=$115AU... yep, i got quoted $124.

Yeh I was thinking of filter foam, I figured that I could get 2 for £10, I take it you have had no issues using foam, lightly oiled I expect.

I'm still ironing out the quirks of it given i've never really tried anything like this before. I initially had 3 layers of foam and found it too restrictive, so backed it down to 2 and it worked perfectly!

I'm planning on giving it a rinse and re-doing it in a couple of weeks so i'll take some proper photo's and see if i can write it up.

Thanks for the offer, but as Jeesh said, flat and pricey
