Hi All, My '93 Across is missing a few bolts from the fairings and the screen. Looking over the http://www.probolt-australia.com/ site, they have the GSX250 listed but no fairing or screen bolts. Other models there do have the fairing and screen kits. So my rather obvious question is, are there any other bikes that share fairings/screens with the across that I could purchase the kit for? Thanks
hey Fishfood They are aftermarket bolt sets from Pro Bolt, if your only missing a couple of bolts then I would suggest popping into your local bike shop as they usally have "pattern" bolts in stock that should fit. A word to the wise, I had to replace the screen on my Across the lower bolts are really hard to get the nut on ( read impossible without taking the nose section off), after lots of swearing and bruised knuckles \ ego I ended up using a flex drive which made the job very easy. The other option is speak to Suzuki, they can get you the original ones, however expect to pay top dollar for them. I just noticed your in bribsane, I did keep all my Across bolts in a bag for the one I parted out, I might even have the ones you need, send me a PM if you want to meet up, Im on the Bayside. thanks Chris
Hey Fishfood Recently was on the look out for some bolts for a Suzuki 250 (not across) and found that a company on the Bayside had the majority of what I was looking for. I purchased a dozen screen bolts with washers and lock nuts for a grand total of $4.80.. These were of very good quality. The likes of BOLT&CO should be able to assist you. Phil
Thanks guys, appreciate the advice. I'm over in Oxley area in the west but I'll have a look round and check out what the local bike and bolt shops have. All up, probably missing half of the fairing bolts and half of the screen bolts. Kiffsta, already had the joy of trying to put those bottom screen bolts back in, managed to do it but the fingers will never be the same again! This is my first bike and I've only had it three weeks so still finding some interesting things such as the right side indicator wires just twisted together - no connectors, no tape nothing! And the coolant reservoir had a strange brown sludge in the bottom of it... great fun! Great site by the way! Cheers Jamie
hey mate im in the same situation as you are, im missing the majority of my fairing bolts as well, by the sounds of it a trip to the bike shop tomorrow might be the go, for interest perposes i might go to suzuki and see what the full kit would be worth if for nothing else it will be a good reference to go off
For those that are still looking, I picked up some good allen bolts from bunnings in the metric fastner section - they work a treat!
I get all my bolts from a place called lee brothers locally, but if i want nice stainless ones or some odd ball type, then I'll add them to a list and do a bulk order from this place which i recommend too IIRC the entire bike consumed about $20 worth of stainless bolts. And there were a heck of a lot to replace! https://www.bolt.com.au/fasteners-c-1010.html
Chris, i will let you in on the secret to install or remove the bolts for the screen, inparticuliar the ones at the very front of the bike behind the gauges you will need long nose pliers and a magnet the magnets i use are out of old hard drives and their strength is amazing. maganetize the end of the long nose pliers and hold the nut with them. angle the nut at about 45 degres in the pliers and then lower the pliers in to the bike and then you can drop the screw thru the fairing and tighten it up
I cringe reading about someone trying to put nuts onto the back of the windscreen, what a pain in the ass that must be! Save yourself the mental anguish and buy the proper well nuts for the windscreen, you don't need access to the other side, wont risk cracking the screen + they are very cheap (anodized black too, pimp!) http://stores.ebay.com/KurveyGirl/Wellnut-Kits-/_i.html?_fsub=1472671011&_sid=65011701&_trksid=p4634.c0.m322
Desmo, mate, where your sense of adventure man? those parts you linked to are extremely inexpensive and take all the fun out of it all
Haha, Had enough adventure for one weekend. Snapped a clutch cable at the bottom of the biggest hill in sydney and had to ride it through the CBD with a pair of vice grips holding the remenants on. Couldnt turn right without the clutch getting pushed in lol! But true true
