    Just wondering if anyone has removed the air-box and put pods in place of it?????

    How would this affect the carbie set up ??? Do you need to change jets???

    A pictorial or how to explanation would really help this newbie <!-- s:roll: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_roll.gif" alt=":roll:" title="Rolling LoL" /><!-- s:roll: -->

    Changing the air filter (or effective air filters) is going to very dramatically change the fueling requirements of the bike. The idea of course would be to slightly increase the air flow, then change the needle circlips down one notch to increase the fuel flow. Of course that's a very rough summary on how to do it and any serious mods would of course want to be properly rejetted... of which costs money.

    FZR250 3LN run trumpets on the instide of the air box... which means any mod to the air box is only going to wreck the preformance... especialy the pods...

    These carbs throw petrol INTO the air box and than suck it back in... the correct air/fuel flow characteristics are VERY important... so even if the air box is mounted on a slight angle things change... or even if there is a very slight air leak...

    Drainage hole in the bottom left of the airbox is just that... a hole with a tube attached to it which then drains gumph (technical term) out of the air box.

    Well then... there you have it. Don't touch it if it aint broken!

    LOL on some bikes that little tube is ended witha small clear reservour and a plug!!

    On a FZR250 3LN it should have in the middle a one way Valve... it lets oil out but not air in...

    depends, if you're just doing city riding I doubt it'd cause much problems...

    I'm not entirely sure on how airbox's / carbs / etc work... It's something i'm still trying to learn about.

    But my understanding is that the airbox provides static air for the engine, which means that (regardless of speed) the engine is getting more or less the same amount of air, and getting it with minimal turbulence.

    If you remove the airbox and put pods on (or just ride without any sort of air filter / box) then the air won't be static: There will be turbulence that will affect the vaporisation of fuel (which will be noticeable at higher speeds). There may also be more air shoved down the throat of the engine at higher speeds, instead of a constant supply provided by the static airbox.
    I don't know if increasing air flow into the carbs will make it run lean… I don't know enough about carbs. I've been told that it should also increase the amount of fuel that is vaporised? Which means that the fuel mixture should stay more or less the same? I don't know.

    But Koma has said the ultimate point: all you're trying to do by changing to pods is increase the flow of air to the engine (which would subsequently require a re-jet otherwise you'll be running lean). Just remember that there is a limited amount of fuel and air that you can fit into an engine (something like what, 250 cc? :p ). You can't go above this limit just by ramming more air and fuel into it… if it doesn't fit it doesn't fit.

    Of course, you can take other steps to increase the amount of fuel and air that you're using: such as providing the engine with cooler (and hence denser) air. This means you can fit the same amount of air in a smaller space (meaning there's extra room for more fuel and air).

    Yamaha have attempted to do this with the fake ram air intake on the fizzer. notice that it routes fresh air through the frame to the back of the airbox (which means the airbox is getting relatively fresh air, instead of air that's been heated by the engine and radiator).

    You can also use a catalyst (such as nitro) which is much denser than air… if you don't mind riding a bike illegally :p

    Anyway, like I said, my knowledge is limited. If I've said anything wrong, please feel free to correct me.
