Airbox

    I had to remove my petrol tank and airbox to get to the wiring to install my new ignition cylinder.
    What i want to ask is this. How tight is the airbox supposed to be attached to the carbies and whats the best way to get them on there securely

    Sorry I have no idea with carbies - just thought I should get the ball rolling hey

    doesen't it have like clips on the bottem that you just tighten up around the Carbs nozzle ?

    thats what i presume.. just slide the carbys in to the black air box rubber inlet and tighen the metal thing around the rubbers ( if you can reach it )

    I personally would assume that it does not have to be too tight - perhaps slightly more than finger tight? I refrained from answering because I didn't know exact torque specs. Perhaps the fzr400 manual could help?

    I had a lot of trouble getting my airbox back on after I took it off once, the end of each carbie seemed to be too big for the holes in the air box.
    and no matter how hard I tried I could not get the thing to go back on, that was untill I came up with the idea of pouring boiling water over the airbox holes and quickly drying them, the thing popped straight on no problems.
    I am not sure if this is your problem but I just though I would post the problem I had.

    I had a look at mine the other day. There are clips to hold the airbox down, on either side of the airbox (for a 3LN) but one of mine has snapped off, so it's only being held on by one side. The clips shouldn't be super critical though if you've got a tight fit on the airbox manifold. Mine is as loose as anything at the moment so I need to get a new manifod to hold it down nice and snug.

    There are rubbers used for directing air from the airbox to the back of the carbs. Where they join the carbs there is a metal clip with an allen key head to tighten them tight to the carbs, on the other side the rubbers simply push into the air box but the problem is over time the rubbers become so hard they cannot be reshaped.

    Best thing to do is get a hairdryer and heat them up until they are soft. then place the airbox on and that should do the job. Hope this works for ya!!

    Oh and make sure there is no air gettin in after you do this cause it can make ur bike run rich
