Heres what i did to mine (with appropriate re-jetting to suit).

    - Removed lid completely.
    - Bought 2 different density foam pads about 10-15mm thick each, similar to dirt bike style air filters. I glued them together, sandwich style, by running lines of glue in a large grid pattern (dont smear your glue on as air doesnt go through where the glue is), and then cut it to the same size as the airbox.
    - I got some 3.2mm stainless welding wire and bent it into a frame the shape of the airbox and then wrapped chicken wire mesh over it.
    - I smeared the foam in air-filter foam oil (just dirt bike stuff) and then used a few rubber bands to attach the foam to the mesh.
    - I reinstalled my air-box lower (as id taken it out at this stage) and then used a couple of rubber bands around the whole thing to hold the air filter in place in the air-box.

Leaving the lid off the top of your air-box drastically increases air flow into the filter but by retaining the lower half of your airbox you retain the volume tuning effect of the airbox and the venturis inside it. This is important to keep your bike running well. Combining that increase in air with the drastic increase in flow provided by the foam filter replacement means you WILL need to re-jet your carb. Remember to clean and re-oil the filter regularly and it will be mint.

Have you had your HP and torque increases quantified on a dyno?
