At last, my Suzuki Bandit is back better than ever. Really like this bike but must admit it has been doing my head in with carb issue for so long. Finally bit the bullet and ordered a complete set of seals from our friends at Lite tek and some needles from a firm in Canada. Let me say that the seal kit from Lite tek is an excellent product, made of Viton the seals fit perfectly, highly recommend this product. The needle kit from Canada was very good also and included 4 fuel bowl seals as well, now have some spares. Armed with all parts, removed the tank, air box and carbs and commenced the job of rebuilding my carbs. Complete strip down of the carbs, my trusted can of threebond at the ready I soaked all jets, emulsion tubes overnight. Then removed all the old seals, hit my first stumbling block when the slides would not budge, they have to come out as I had new seals for them. Moucho WD40 and very small tap with hammer 1st one moved and the others followed. Guarantee they had not been moved since the bike was built in 1992. The seal where in place but virtually disintegrated as the slides came out. Checked the diaphrams under light for any punctures, none spotted. Ok, time to rebuild, seals, O-rings and needles installed everything looked good. Fitted the carbs, ran some fuel and hit the button. Bike started but went straight to 4000rpm, wound the adjuster to no avail?????? Several attempts and still no resolve. Carbs off, went through everything I could think of, no resolve. Had no answers, texted my mechanic and asked for HELP. Told me to bring them over and he would have a look. Held them up to the light wondering what I'd done wrong when I noticed daylight under the butterfly's on 2 and 3, 1 and 4 were shut, I don't profess to being a mechanic and had not seen this prior. Showed Jason what I'd found, that's our problem. Armed with a screw driver he had this problem fixed in no more than 3 minutes. Came home, put them back on the bike and PRESTO, 1500rpm's. Today took the bike back to Jason, put the gauges on, balanced all 4 carbs and she running better than ever. Come on Sunday, this bike and owner need a ride.
Sweet! We want pics!! Bandits are a cool looking machine, and that frame reminds me of a Harris Magnum. I could do with a Bandit on my postcards page. http://www.litetek.co/postcards.html
Buford T. Justice: Breaker, breaker for the Bandit. Bandit: Come on back, breaker. Buford T. Justice: Bandit I got a smokey report for you. Come on! Bandit: Well, talk to me good buddy. Buford T. Justice: You got trouble comin... Bandit: Well what's your handle son, and what's your twenty? Buford T. Justice: My handle's Smokey Bear and I'm tail-grabbin yo ass right now!
Lets just say Phil was asked to lead us out on our Sunday ride, Phil took off like scalded cat and it took me some time to catch him, it would appear his carbs are well sorted !!!
