Pretty simple process really... i did always mean to write something up including photo's but i'll give you the quick run down now; 1. Remove front sprocket cover 2. Loosen chain by adjusting chain tensioner on the end of the swingarm 3. Flatten flanges on bolt retention washer (carefully as your probably going to want to use this again). 4. Remove front sprocket main retention bolt (this may be a difficult one to remove! Yamaha's are renown for having the bolt tighten itself into oblivion and either completely coming off or being near impossible to remove.) 5. Lift chain off front sprocket and remove sprocket. 6. Replace with front sprocket of your choice (15 teeth are my personal favourite)... then repeat process in reverse to reassemble. It's always worth loc-tighting these sorts of things, and for your own sake remember to put the retention washer back in there between the sprocket and bolt and bend the flanges back up to hold the bolt.
well went to put on the new sprocket and found that the plate that holds down the sprocket can't be used. The threads in the sprocket don't align with the plate that holds it down. Any ideas? Please help ASAP because cause my bike is in pieces and I need it for transport
the hole where i put the bolts through the sprocket don't line up with the holes in the plate that holds it down.
dont think ther is to much you can do about that take a rubing of the old one when its of and then take that with you when you go to pic up the next one
I'm still not entirely sure which bit your referring to?! Is this the small washer like flange plate that is bent up at the edges to hold the bolt? Or is this something else?
there's a little plate that slides onto the sprocket, you put two small bolts through the plate, that go into the sprocket, and that holds the sprocket down somehow I got it sorted anyway, ther's a small spring washer underneath my plate that i missed, it's really hard to explain, I'll get photo's next time i change sprockets simple diagram: <Sprocket> <Washer> <Plate> nothing was bent up at the edged, it was all bolted down. oh, and i can pull wheelies now
... and thats what it's all about. <!-- s:lol: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_lol.gif" alt=":lol:" title="Laughing" /><!-- s:lol: -->
