I can give you a brief run down,
take your side fairings of your bike, then at the bottom you will see the oil tank , where you will see underneath it the oil sump. it should have a what ya call it on it.. and a screw.. use a ratched to take that hexagon wotever its called thing off.. i tried unscrewing it.. of course that dosent work and i just threaded it.
then once that is out, oil will come pouring out.. and at the top of that oil tank just take the cap off and put some fresh oil in to clean it out. and then tighten up the oil sump up again and add in the oil .

Someone here would know the amount of oil needed , i think 2.2L with a new oil filter and 2.0L without.

Also anyone know if the bike should be idle for abit, to let the oil warm? then drain it.. or drain it with the engine cold?

    Hope it helps, and correct me if I m wrong. <!-- s:) --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_smile.gif" alt=":)" title="Smile" /><!-- s:) -->

I usually let the bike warm up a bit before changing the oil. The only thing to be cautious of when doing this is to make sure you are wearing gloves and long sleeves when you open the drain plug!!! Oil may run down the spanner when you don't expect, or it may come out when you don't expect...

As for amount of oil - I always fill it to about 1.8 litres, then start watching the viewing glass on the right hand side to ensure that I get the right amount in.

    ah ok thanks guys
so its pretty straight forward.... ive been doing oil changes and the like on my car for a while but im new to bikes... so ive got all the necessary tools... like you said boz, its probably a good idea to warm the engine a little before draining the oil...

now the oil filter is a different matter isnt it? i here the extractors have to come off.... do any gaskets have to be replaced or are they reusable?

    cheers

For the 2kr you dont have to take the exhaust off..but I have heard something like that for the 3ln.

One more point..once uve filled the oil up to the levels shown by the glass, start the bike up for around 1 minute...and check it again..u will probably find the oil settles in more..and u have to add more.

Depends, I have an exup 2kr and I had to remove the exhaust to get at the oil filter, you can get at the oil change thingy, but it may drain all over your extractors if you don't remove them.

dont know bout the 2kr beign different tho..
for mine i haf to take to zorst off to b able to get to the hex screws underneath.

    anyway..
there is another post down a little further that shows how to replace the filter.
it is advisable to change the filter when u change the oil too..

on my 3ln i dont have to move any exhaust components (i thought volvo v6's were the only ones you had to move the ex manifold for!), its a little tight but nothing too bad. they say to change oil every 2,500 and oil and filter at 5,000.
i think it is more ideal to change oil in a cold engine as all the oil has run down from the top end and out of HLA's (if applicable). it drains slower but you know most of the oil can be got out.
