Hey, im finding my battery is losing charge and going flat after about a week. I naturally assumed it was the battery..and went and got one replaced..Although I havn't got the battery yet, Im now thinking I just wasted my money and that it could be the regulator. When idling the bike should be chargin the batter at over 14volts...mines lucky to reach 13..and when I put my lights on..it sucks it down to 11. Could it still be the battery that is causing this to happen???
I'm not a good one with electrics, but I did have similar problems (I did get a new battery and it did help - hopefully it will for you too). I would guess that when you rev the bike the voltage would go up from 11 volts though too (rather than when it sits at idle) so perhaps that is the source of the voltage problems? What I also discovered during this though was that you can modify the right hand control box (with the kill switch) to allow you to turn on/off headlights. If you open it up you will notice that there are actually all the workings for a headlight switch - you just need to provide the actaul switch. This allowed me to turn off my headlights after parking, and wasn't so much a drain when starting the bike. It was actually quite handy to have - the fzr has a really small battery and doesn't take much to drain it (haven't seen another electric-start bike with a battery that size).
mine had a metallic sticker over the box with 'fzr' on it. I thought discovering that you could make it a headlight switch was somethign new... oh well...
