Can any of you 3LN3 owners check your speedo's for me when it gets dark and let me know what has a backlight. I've noticed that my speedo only has a backlight on the actual speedometre, but not on the RPM metre or the temperature gauge. I just can't remember exactly how it was before since I haven't riden in a while! <!-- s:cool: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_cool.gif" alt="" title="Cool" /><!-- s:cool: -->

From what I can gather, the clocks "SHOULD" be similar across the sportbike line. On my 94 1000 it has two bulbs in the speedo, one in the tach and one in the temp. listed as = BULB (12V-1.7W, T6.5)

But again, this is on a 1000. I wouldn't think that they are much different but there will be some differences.

    Yep, all gauges light up.
Its just a matter of pulling the instrument cluster out and opening it up. Then the bulbs should just pull out the back. Check them all and im sure you'll find a fair few blown.

If its not the bulbs then get the sand paper out and clean up all the connections. Failing that its troubleshooting time with a multimeter.
I'm contemplating replacing all of my bulbs at the moment with 5mm white LED's just to make it a bit crisper at night.

I've got some weee BEASTY little LED's though; not quite luxeon stars (for those in the know) but these are mighty bright. Haven't got a mCD rating on them right now, but i'll take photo's if/when i get around to it.

Yep all gauges should light up...when I got my CBR400rr I had to change all the light bulbs because they were blown. If I can remember I think there were 4 of the little suckers. Now at night time its as bright as hell and looks quite coool.

Try these from DICK SMITHS with a 560 ohm resistor in series. LEDS are polarity conscious so if it does not work try swapping the + and - connections.

Also LEDs beam out the front compared to a globe which radiates in all directions, so you may need something to diffuse the light.
(perhaps a bit of translucent plastic over the front of the led.)
