Im not a painter so this is a tad foreign to me, but was asking around a few people in the game, the response I received was that if the paint job is slick and the decals are good, a few coats of clear are a good idea as when you polish your bike, the clear will protect the decals.

    Hey Slender

I have no idea wether to clear coat over the top of decal's or not.
What I do know is that my mechanic has had insurance jobs where painting and repairs have been involved. The panels have been returned painted and a specialist was called in to affix the decals as it can be a difficult task to remove any bubbles that can occur whilst fitting them. So as you can see it ain't clear cut. I would seek advise before you go ahead, just to be sure.                                                      Phil

    Hey Slender
Was down at my mechanics this morning and a guy showed up with a fully restored GSXR600 2001 model. The colours were the blue used on the Rizla bikes with all the decals.
He was of the opinion that clear should cover the decals, particularly on the tank as any fuel spillage would adversely affect the decals.
He was the fifth person who bought fairings made in China and was not impressed with the fit. The price is right but the panels do not match up. This fellow spent virtually days before getting everything bolted down, shame really.
Applying the clear is probably the most difficult part as to heavy over decals can discolour them also, I learnt a bit and am more convinced that I'm not a painter.

i always use 2 pack clear over decals as not only does it protect them it also stops the damn sun from peeling the edges as they get old and start to wear they keep the colour they were suposed to be to
clear coat is a must on fuel tanks  ;) ;)
