    I was coming home from a mates house yesterday when I pulled up in the driveway at about 5 km/h. All the sudden the bike stoped..and I realised the back wheel had locked and seized.

    Further inspection found the front sprocket had come off comepletely. Luckily coz I was going slow there was no damage..and I just need to replace the lock nut and washer that had fallen off.

    Would not have liked to experience a locked wheel at 100 km/s, as pulling the clutch in doesn't help at all. <!-- s:???: --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_confused.gif" alt=":???:" title="Confused" /><!-- s:???: -->

    hey grendal
    how did the back wheel lock? if the front sprocket came off, shouldnt the back wheel have been free with a loose chain? maybe the chain got caught on something....dunno...

    anyhoo... good to see it was a relatively cheap fix with no problems...

    btw where did you get your sprocket from?

    cheers

    Nah I didn't need a new sprocket....yeah well the sprocket came off the drive shaft....but was still in the cover....so the chain wasn't loose. If id been going faster I would have definetly destroyed stuff lol.

    who did you get the nut and washer from?
    i was investigating a knocking sort of noise(still cant isolate it) and found that the tread of my nut was gone :/ and that the nut was sitting in the bottom of the sprocket cover

    What do the threads on the output shaft look like?

    Do you people NOT have a bend over lock washer? This nut should never come of with out you taking it off.

    I bent the lock washer over when i replaced the sprocket.
    The threads on the output shaft look and feel fine, quite lucky there...i hope.

    The knocking noise has me more worried, i'm assuming its something attached to the output shaft hitting something else. Its only a guess and i have no idea on how to go about diagnosing the problem. Could it possibly be the chain\sprocket moving around?

    unfortunately this is a VERY common problem with all FZRs and YZF (as far as I know)...

    What is happening... if the lock washer is not 100% super tight the nut moves so ever slightly... it will eather tighten up eventualy and strip the thed or loosen and fall off... I was told finger tight but I do not belive that... check the manuals!!

    I bet the knowcking/thumping noise you are hearing is the chain.
