Been having some trouble getting my bike to start and run, mainly when its cold. I just checked the valve clearances but am not sure what to make of them. Some of the intake came below the expected range of 0.1-0.2mm. Here are the numbers. The smallest gauge I had was 0.04mm and I couldn't get that under a couple of them. I'm guessing its bad if it is below 0.1mm? The exhausts look fine though. If you can't get an intelligent reading on a particular set (a "zero" reading could be just << the thinnest feeler you have, or it could be 0.02mm of interference), you have to "try and see" - re-shim with a thinner part than what's in there, put it ALL BACK TOGETHER, and get another reading. Once you know what your clearances are, then you can start doing the math, swap shims around where possible, and order in (hopefully just a few) replacement shims. You've got 5 tight valves and one right on the limit - I don't doubt you've had starting issues! Edit: One more thing - when sizing and selecting your shims, don't go for the set that gives you 0.11mm. You want the loosest fit you can get (within tolerance). A cold clearance of 0.20 will give you better sealing = better cold starts AND better power and performance once its hot. PLUS, it'll be a lot longer before the next time you need to re-shim; if you shoot for a dead-on 0.11 clearance, you might need to re-shim next week! <!-- s:-? --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_Eyecrazy.gif" alt=":-?" title="Eye Crazy" /><!-- s:-? -->
Well I pulled the cam out and took out the buckets. What do the shims look like? Inside the bucket there is a small round bit of metal. Seems to be about 1.65mm tall, and about 2mm in diameter. Is this the shim?
