My pressure cleaner is a cheap GMC 1600w unit which i've had for about 12 year's, it work's fine with the wet blasting attachment.

I have done some upgrade's on my blasting cabinet since those pic's above.
I fitted some new led strip light's, and run it off a 13.8v power supply, the protective shield's aren't fitted in the pic's
Also fitted some brass mesh to stop smaller part's falling through into the sand/grit below, and i have a port in the top left for a vacuum so it doesn't get so foggy when blasting

Nice setup... I am not going to try mine out till probably after Christmas... concentrating on getting the majority of work done on the ACROSS before starting back on the SRX...
Quick question... how would the wet blaster go on rims??
Are the lips still polishable after blasting or is it a full on paint job :)

Nah it'll leave a finish like what's on my alternator above, like a sand blasted fine pitted finish but a bit smoother.
You'd need to go over it with some 400 wet and dry then 600, 800, 1200, and 1500 before polishing the rim's

If you can get some Sodium Bicarbonate (baking soda) that might work, i've never tried it for wet blasting though, and it might get a bit expensive if you can't source it cheap, supermarket's sell it in 500g bag's for under $5 but you will need a lot of bag's
Those 25kg bag's of Sodium Bicarbonate i can get for about $20ea from memory
I have pic's of my wheel's i soda blasted in my FZR250 thread, they just needed a quick polish after blasting and a few of the oxidised spot's needed wet sanding first
Each rim used about 2kg of Baking soda

    Before soda blasting

Yep.. I have 5kg of Soda for blasting.. I tried it with one of the Supercheap gravity guns... man does it make a mess..
Everything within a 20 metre radius turned white lol.
I haven't done anymore since.. and that stuff kills grass too... so I think a blast cabinet would be better for Soda... :)
I might try it through the Wetblaster just to see what happens...

I did my wheel's while they were laying on the back lawn, the Kikuyu was fine but i've heard it can kill some grass
The baking soda work's best with a small tip in the gun around 2mm
I think using it in a cabinet you wouldn't be able to see what you're doing after a few second's

I was thinking of making a blast cabinet out of ply and using a few computer fans for air flow (mod up some 12v AC adapters).

And I was thinking of using a degreaser gun as it has the bottom feed? Anyone think it will work? I was gonna make it on a trolley and store my air compressor underneath.

Yeah sound's like it'll work, ply would be better than the chipboard that mine is made out of.
The tip of the gun wont last too long though, it only take's mine about 8 hour's use to bore out a 4mm steel tip to 8mm
You can get the blasting gun with replaceable tip cheap off ebay, supercheap sell spare tip's in steel or ceramic too

Or get a real cheap gun off ebay with spare tip's if you're on a tight budget

dont think you will have much success with bi-carb wet blasting as normally you have to keep it very dry for normal blasting (or it clogs easily ) would like to be proved wrong though as havnt tried it ..a cheap sourse for bi-carb is a feed and saddle shop as its used for a feed supplement ,last time bought some was about $20 for 20 kilo or there abouts ,and definitely good dust mask or will be tasting bi-carb for hours ,magic for getting grease off parts but NOT for rust ,looks like the rust is gone but it isn't ,paint over it and the rust bubbles up in no time ,magic for doing carbs and then popping into a sonic cleaner, rubbers are ok ,no blocked passage ways etc and very ,very clean looking

When i first tried wet blasting i mixed 1kg of sand with 5 litre's of water and used the small blasting gun, i had the pickup tube in the bottom of the tub of water/sand
It cleaned up the alloy pretty well that i tried it out on, i also tried it on some steel but as it dried it showed sign's of surface rust.

I don't know how much baking soda you'd need to mix with the water to be abrasive enough to strip paint though, but i'll post up my result's here anyway.

I thought with the pressure washer assisted blasting that the feed was dry and the pressure drop at the nozzle drew the abrasive material into the water stream, or am I confusing to different tools? One air only blasting gun which you're feeding a slurry to and the pressure washer nozzles which get fed dry abrasive?

    Yeah there's 2 way's to wet blast.
Using soda with the pressure cleaner may require the soda to come from a pressurised tank as it will clog easy
I have seen set up's that use an old compressor tank fed with about 10 psi of air and it can push wet sand out the bottom outlet into the feed line for the gun for the pressure cleaner

Would gravity feed work for the soda?

bi-carb clogs that easily even from humidity that commercial soda blasters have a drying chamber before it gets to the nozzle ,I use a gravity feed blaster ($60 one from s/cheap ,tank on top of gun ) for small jobs but even then often have to final dry soda in the oven but I'm in the tropics

I have one of those gravity feed guns from Supercheap as well and find the nozzle is probably too big to really do Soda properly... plus it makes a hell of a mess....lol
It might be a little better now I have a larger compressor but I will see how my kArcher wet blaster goes first...
    Maybe later in the week...

mess ,o,yes , found the s/cheap one works ok but forever filling it ,maybe due to the big nozzle (might help with the clogging ) but it does the job as said for carbs and with a sonic cleaner magic . tested every thing out first time on a ducati carb that had been ratterling around in a parts box for 30 odd yrs covered in grease and gung , just 2 mins with gun / soda (bi carb from supermarket ) and 2 hrs (1 hr each way , small cleaner and have to turn carb upside down to fit as well ) and was amazed ,would have taken hours with a tooth brush to get same results ,and even then doult if would have got into some spots..should be intresting to see how it goes with the wet soda blasting as got a couple of frames to do

With wet blasting and rust on steel you can sometime's use an additive in the water to help prevent flash rusting
There's a few different option's like 'Hold Fast” antirust primer, and other antirust coating's, hardest part is mixing it with the water before it come's out of your pressure cleaner gun.
Some pressure cleaner's have a tank that will pick up car wash, detergent's etc and mix it with the water.
Best off doing it on a hot day and drying off the item asap

The soda doesn't flow too well, i think with it being so fine it seem's to stick together a bit, when blasting with it you rely on the vacuum from the gun to pull it through.
When i do small item's i just run it as a total loss,
i have the 1/2" pick up hose coming off my gun and with my left hand i just dip it into the soda that's in a bucket/tub every now and then as i'm blasting while holding the gun in my right hand
I've found that the soda doesn't flow too well though the pick up hose if the hose is full, tried it with a 3/4", 11/16" and a 5/8" hose too
I have used it through my 2 litre bottle gravity set up as well, sometime's you need to tap the hose to free up the flow, or put your finger over the end nozzle on the gun and give it a quick blast to send air pressure back up the hose to clear blockage's

The replacement nozzle's supercheap sell are pretty good for the price, the ceramic one's are the perfect size.
    http://www.supercheapauto.com.au/Product/Portable-Air-Sand-Blast-Gun-Nozzles/377687

Ive also seen people use the ceramic part from old spark plug's as the hole is only 3mm or close to it
It's hard to pull them apart without breaking the ceramic though

lol , I did , stocked up on a few xmas presents for my self ,new battery charger etc , never seen the cleaners at s/cheap ,bought mine new on e bay ,wish had got the larger size though ,still only using just water as getting results needed (not game to take chance on stuffing up rare parts ) but there is a range of adatives ,lemon juice, chemicals etc which suppose to work better but if use to much can stuff up rubber bits / aluminium etc ,from what read the higher the frequence the better they are .in the states above a certain frequency they now cant be sold (why ???)
