Hey guys, It's been a while since I've had to ask for help. But my mechanical skills do not extend into the electrical arena so here goes.. I know that my battery has been going flat for quite a while, if I didn't ride for more than 4 or 5 days I would have to push start the bike because the battery couldn't crank the bike over. However yesterday I tried to start the bike after not riding for about 4 days. I turned the ignition on and the lights went on and the oil and neutral light lit up but the fuel pump and EXUP didn't turn on. Then I tried to start it, pushed the starter and nothing. I put the battery on a quick charge and checked the fuse and it seems fine, then tried again. Still the EXUP didn't check itself and the fuel pump didn't start so I didn't bother trying to start it. The one strange thing is the headlights low and high beam work and didn't seem dim or anything. Also the oil light, that doesn't normally stay on when the ignition is turned on and the engine isn't running does it? Maybe it's some kind of fault code?? I have two theories.. Really dead battery and the CDI won't even register it or... (The bad one) Wrecked CDI. Thanks heaps guys Hagen Anyway I will leave everbody to mill it over. I'm going to buy a multimeter today so hopefully I can check some stuff.
maby the side stand switch is stuck on, although you would still be able to start it in neutral... or there is somthing up with the key connection or engine cut switch. it cant hurt to buy a new battery anyway theyre not expensive. does it work if your jump starting it? maby the starter is broken or unwired? mine was corroded andsnapped and i couldnt work out what was wrong with it for ages. the connection box thing for it is on the lefthand side of the tail.
Use these two drawings to find your way thru the electricals.. Hope it helps... Whole electrical drawing http://attachments.fzr250.com/Dave/electdiag.pdf Starting circuit
Well I feel like a dick... I don't use the killswitch and my friend was having a laugh on it in the weekend and must have flicked the killswitch. I tried everything I could to get that bike going, was even looking at buying a new CDI just to see if that was it. Haha well just as well it's only gonna cost me my pride instead of $xxx, xxx. Lesson learnt. Makes my 4 year engineering degree seem a bit of a joke.. Thanks heaps for your replies guys. Hagen
hahahhaa. not as bad as what i was gonna do when i fist got mine... i thought my gearbox was ****** because it wouldnt go out of neutral.. but i didnt realise that you had to have the side stand up to put it into gear. took me a MONTH to work it out. litrally. didnt think to try taking it off the stand... lol.
Glad to see you have a sense of humour after all that..
I did the same thing a week after crashing my bike, I put it all back together and put it in gear to make sure it was still all ok and it kept stalling, I thought the box was stuffed so I did a search on here about in gear stalling and seen the side stand, The things you do when your on pain killers, Ha.
