I thought about 2smokingronnie's idea of a Viking burial. Thought that was a good way to say goodbye, but when the tilt tray truck came today and flat dragged it onto the tray on its side I thought it was just a pile of scrap metal and that the bikes 'soul' had already gone to "Valhala". Face is good today, just feels like sunburn. Still pretty cut up about losing it. It had carried me, and sometimes Wendy too, halfway round this country and back without ever missing a beat. Always started first go and was smooth and powerful to ride. Such a great bike for a run to Adelaide or Brisbane at the touch of a starter button. Another chapter of my life closed. Wonder what is next?
why not stick with Honda, maybe a ST1300 this time ? Here is one in Newcastle for under $10k http://www.bikesales.com.au/private...kes]))&Service=[Bikesales])&pso=0&pss=Premium
Thanks Kiffsta, but not looking yet. Will be sticking to Honda with my NX650 Dominator for the time being.
Hey Murdo I certainly feel your pain, you've lost something very special. That beautiful v4 engine, how do you replace that??? Was wondering, do you have any idea how or what started this fire, I've never seen a bike catch fire and burn completely like yours, very sad indeed. I'm certain you'll keep us posted on your next acquisition, another chapter in life.
I dunno Phil. Many different opinions from leaking fuel tank, grass/paper stuck under fairings to acts of God. I have no idea, but my theory is that since I last filled the tank in March on my trip to Adelaide that a hose had perished and when I filled it again in town it started to leak, which is how I smelled fuel when I stopped. By putting it onto the side stand allowed the fuel puddled in the 'valley' of the engine to run down over the hot exhaust pipes. I really don't know, but that is my guess.
dam shame mate.. sorry to hear about the bike. glad to hear you got away with only very minor injuries(beard injuries are still injuries hahaha).. but now you get a nice new shiny one
