Just thought this site was kind of interesting. Never thought of making a gasket out of a cornflakes packets, but considering the time, money, etc that it takes to buy one from japan, I can see the sense... <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.crustyquinns.com/tech/myogasket.html">http://www.crustyquinns.com/tech/myogasket.html</a><!-- m -->
For simple gaskets it's perfect! Just give it a liberal application of gasket goop for good luck and she'll be right mate. For more complex gaskets i'd rather just pay for them.
It’s an old trick used mostly on old cars. Works great but don’t go installing a cornflake packet head gasket. Just use a bit of common sense and you will be right.
On the topic of gaskets, do you think a product such as this: http://www.permatex.com/products/au...ker/MotoSeal_1_Ultimate_Gasket_Maker_Grey.htm could be used in place of float bowl rubber gaskets? It's claimed to be petrol resistant. Anyone ever use a product like this on carbs? Would it be O.K. to use ordinary gasket maker on crancase covers?
