what ones should i go for? i want somthing that actually tells me how fast im going. not an approximate.
How accurate do you need? A $15 bicycle speedo is pretty darn close, if you program the tire OD properly; a GPS system is EXTREMELY accurate, but $$$.
didnt think of using a gps... therye not that expensive. cheepest ones worth getting are about $75... i was just thinking of geting digital clocks because im doing the whole bike up fancy. =p is it possable to use the clocks off another bike? like an r1 or somthing? or would that be huge amounts of reprogramming...
A couple of fellows at FZR Online are using R1 and R6 gauges; the conversion is non-trivial. You need to build an adaptor box, plus a speed sensor has to be installed in the gear box - apparently the probe from an FJR1300 fits better than the R1/R6 unit. There are a couple of threads on this mod, plus a lot of other info. FZR Online and FZR Forum are US-based and so more about the 400 and 600, but are still good sources of experience and knowledge. Cheap GPS - bear in mind, it's going to be exposed to the elements and to some pretty serious vibration; it needs to be instantly and continuously readable (no 'snooze' mode!) which probably means it'll need to be tied into the bike's power system, AND it has to have excellent signal discrimination and sensitivity - the cop who pulls you over will have absolutely NO sympathy to your plight of "I lost my GPS signal and had no idea how fast I was going!" <!-- s --><img src="{SMILIES_PATH}/icon_biggrin.gif" alt="" title="Very Happy" /><!-- s -->
