I take my bike to Swan Hill Yamaha coz my bike would flood itself with fuel at stop start but on the road would go like a champ

I have had the carbs redone new o-rings new jets and full service (fuggin $700) and now it takes off choice and doesn't stall at stop start but when it gets to 10,000 rpm you can hold it flat and it will go no further

wtf can it be now Yamaha have no idea or so they say ....

Could it be starving for fuel??? the other thought i had was maybe the fuel pump is duel stage and is not allowing fuel at high revs

I was going to reply to your PM but came across your thread at the same time so i thought i'd share my thought process.

There's 3 things needed for broom broom... air, fuel & spark.
Assuming the spark is fine as it's idling fine, i'd move right along to the air and fuel. Do you know how to tell if a bike is running rich from the smell of the exhaust gases? I know it's a bit of an unorthodox method to tell, but a properly running bike has a clean burnt smell to it whereas a bike running rich has a damp slightly fuelly smell to it. A bike running lean will smell too dry and a little bit dusty, but that's a bit harder to tell.

What condition is the air filter in?
What did the service centre set the carb needle circlips and idle mixture at?
Is there a fuel pump and is it plugged in?

The air element is clean as

The mechanic told me he set the carb up to the specs he had which i assume are factory stock do you know what the needle circlips and idle mix should be set at???

As for the fuel pump it has one but what do you mean by plugged in does it have a plug/switch???? It must be getting fuel but coz it revs awsome to 10,000 and idles/takes off well but then will not go any further almost this is why i thought maybe the fuel pump is dual stage

doin in my head

Also check that the exup valve is opening when revs increase over 3-4000rpm and fully open at 10,000rpm

Checked this with the mechanic when i was there also, the valve is opening and the servo motor is operating as well....adjusted them a couple of times but the same affect

It all goes good to 10,000 but will not reach over that even with throttle wide open and before i took it in it would rev to 18,000 easy but it would just flood when stop starting

I'd be asking him for a look at those 'factory' specs that he's set the bike up to. It sounds to me like something might be off there...
Also, what's it like power wise till it gets to this 10k rpm limit? More powerful than before? Does it feel like it drops off just before it gets to the 10k?

Are you sure the tacho is reading correct?

Sounds like it could be a problem on the vacuum side of the carbs, maybe very lean main jets but very doubtful.

I take it that this is when riding and not when in neutral??

Another thing about that 'factory stock' issue is that what may be factory stock and perfect for Japan would be running like a rough pig in Australia.

It sounds very lean if anything. My bike without the airbox on would only get to 11krpm, 12 if you really hit it.

Definately a lean setup.

Still can't get this **** worked out

the bike runs fine idles well but as soon as it get between 10/11,000rpm you can hold the accelerator flat out and it will not go any harder in any gear

Very close to sale time for this bike, as i have a 98 gsxr600 and spending money on this bike is fast becoming not an option

It ran hard and all the way to the red stuff (18) before the carbs were rebuilt but just kept stalling at stops now it's the opposite

what is the going rate for these bikes in sale???
