I can't make it to this event, but I am trying to organise myself for the last meeting of the year in October. Any of the 2fiftycc.com team going?

It doesn't look like there are any/many bikes going to this meeting. Might be better to hold off until the November meeting. Not sure what the chief is planning, but I am focused on getting to that meeting as is Murdo (& maybe Pete). Be good to catch up with everyone then.

    TDRA Gunnedah 2nd & 3rd of November 2024

Last round of the 2024 season. We know @Linkin can't make it (he has a good excuse); The Chief is also going to be MIA, so who will be there from Team 2fiftycc? I can make this round, but I won't unless there are other 250's attending. Entries close 30th Oct, so plenty of time to save up and enter.

I'm in. Be good to see you all again. It has been a while. What's Mason riding these days? I seem to recall he sold his 650 to a museum or something like that.

Sold his Tenere 600 to museum, still got DR650 and recently bought a new MT-07 that he wants to have a run on.

    Gunnedah Drags 2/3 Nov 2024

Team 2fiftycc showed up for the last round of the TDRA 2024 drag racing series. Present were Murdo on his purple MC19; Pete on his yellow MC19 and Frankster on his… Spada. I recently bought a period 6 historic racing bike in QLD and on my way back to TAS with it, I thought I’d give it a squirt down the 1/8 mile and catch up with a few people I haven’t seen in a while. I will do a write up of the Spada in the ‘What have you done to your bike’ thread soon.

    Spada.JPG

The Chief and @Linkin couldn’t make it, but Murdo's grandson, Mason, popped along with his MT-07 to make us all feel old.

    Team 2fiftycc.JPG

Also in attendance was a couple of drag bikes; a ZX14, an R1 & a HD. There was also a street-ridden HD. Sorry, not a lot of pics. I think this link will take you to a professional photographer's gallery https://tinyurl.com/4ewr74d7

    ZX14.JPG

    Bikes 1.JPG

    Saturday Test&Tune
It was a stinking hot day. The airstrip was resurfaced last year and the new surface isn’t getting too many good reviews from many of the racers. There were also a lot of flies and some ants where we were setup. The Christmas tree had intermittent issues so the entire day became a bit of an endurance test. The highlight was some bloke rocking up in his $500,000 McLaren and running low 7’s. He told me he has run as quick as 6.5 on the 1/8 mile. He can’t do burnouts as the car won’t let him, so he just rolls in and off he goes.

    McLaren.jpg

    Times for Team 2fiftycc
Mason led the way with a 9.2
Followed by Pete with a 9.4
    Murdo ran a 10.0
    I managed a 10.22 on the Spada

Murdo had forgotten to swap his track-day 17T front sprocket with his smaller drag-racing sprocket, so his times were a little off from his usual levels. I had decided not to lean on the Spada too much as the bike has a few issues and until I get it home and do all the normal checks (compression, carb setup & balance, valve clearances etc) I will limit the revs to 10,000. The Spada makes its max HP @ 12,000rpm, but max torque is at 9,000rpm, so I felt that would suffice for me to have some fun. Even with limiting my rev range, I was still able to coax a couple of 10.2’s and a best speed of 106kph out of the old girl.

    IMG_3811.JPG

    Sunday

Race day was more of the same stinking hot weather and flies. The Christmas tree was even flakier, so many of our qualifying runs were wasted. One of mine said I ran a 7.73 and one guy ran a 1,000mph top speed!

Anyway, once the dust (and flies) had settled, Team 2fiftycc set their dial-ins as follows.

    Mason 9.4
    Peter 9.4 (I think)
    Murdo 10.0
    Frank 10.6

Eliminations (for the bikes) was held up until 2:50pm, so we were all hot and bothered by the time we raced. I ran the ZX14 in the first round; Murdo raced Mason and Pete ran against the R1. Mason and I made it to the semis and I made it to the final where I raced the R1 and got him by 0.025sec. Having recently lost a race by 0.023sec, I can understand if the R1 rider was pissed, but we both agreed it was a great race and had a good laugh about it (he thought he got me on the line; I knew he didn't but thought I might have broken out).

    Spadapic.JPG

There was no prize for the best presented bike, but if there was I think Pete’s MC19 would get it.

    Pete MC19.JPG

It was great to see the crew again albeit minus the Chief and Adrian. Cheers.

I really need to get back out there again.

I really need to fix a few things on the FZR that have cropped up. The carb bits are sitting there waiting, that is a matter of motivation. But after a 2 week hiatus the FZR has lost its tacho and the temperature gauge is all over the place. Good thing I have spares.

It started straight up after 2 weeks of sitting no issues there. Has been running better with the baffle in, so it will stay for road use, and I will pull it out for track days and drags because the noise is glorious.

I always forget that Sydney dragway isn't far away, I should try to catch a bike night there.

I just loved the fact that the clutch worked like a normal clutch should. Now, I'm even more determined to sort the ZXR250 clutch out. I'm pretty sure the Spada would run high 9's without any issues. I'm looking forward to pulling it apart and then getting it onto a track. There's a track day at Broadford on the 14th of December that I'm aiming to be at if the bike is sorted. After that, it's on the boat to TAS for track work at Symmons Plains and Baskerville.
