    Hey guys. So my 88 2kr (non-exup) fails to start after some distance with the lights fully on. It loses all its power and stalls out. Trying to start it after with no lights on whatsoever, and it sounds like there's no juice in the battery. After some time of not touching it whatsoever it starts up, sometimes after a push start and sometimes just on its own (regular starting procedure). I've done some research an pondering and I think it could either either one of the two, (or something totally unrelated)

    1 - the bulb for the headlights is too strong and therefore zapping more power out of the battery then it can charge. Although this wouldn't make sense as it will start up after some time no problem.

    2 the lights aren't properly grounded. Not sure how this would effect my battery as I'm not too big on electrical systems.

    Appreciate any help. And just to knock off the obvious, it's nrelatively brand new battery (a month old) me it's fully charged when I first got it. Also did some diagnostics and I believe that the stator and regulator are in working condition although I don't know if I should trust the accuracy of my digital multimeter as it was the cheapest one I bought.

    That sounds like the battery needs a decent recharge......they will gain a little from sitting.
    Even though its a new battery if u havnt done any decent long runs it will not get a decent charge,especially if u are stop/starting and running lights etc.....Is the acid level in the battery correct?

    Battery should be 12V+ while not running and read 13/14V+ while running.

    Start with a fully charged battery then maybe unplug the headlights ....have the globes been changed to something non stock?

    I would also be checking the ground from battery to engine and voltage regulator grounding etc.

    Have a read of this post <!-- l --><a class="postlink-local" href="http://fzr250.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=3420">viewtopic.php?f=30&t=3420</a><!-- l -->
    It sounds like a battery or charging problem as the FZR250 will die at idle speed if the battery is flat. It will still crank but not fire.
    It also can happen with a lot of city riding in peak hour traffic where you do a lot of idling at traffic lights and particularly if it is hot weather and the fan is running too.
    The engine normally needs to be over 3000rpm to begin charging, otherwise the battery is draining down running the lights and ignition.
