Gee I was paralysed by choice today at the ONLY bike store in Ballarat. Which engine oil to use in my 1996 Across.

The old man recommends Castrol, but the store doesn't stock it (wtf!).

So I went with a Shell mineral oil - Advance SX4

I used to be a Shell Optimax/Vortex user for my car - till I noticed my car seemed 'addicted' to it. Since then I've been a bit wary of Shell products.

What's with the price of Motul btw !?!?!

Any recommendations anyone? The bike is just nudging 27K km.

    Hey Brad

I have always been told that the best oil to use in your bike is the one specified by the manufacturer, however I trust my mechanic and he put me onto Shell Advance SX4 20W-50 and I use it in all my bikes.

    Hey Brad
I will second Chris's comment on Shell oils. My mechanic has recently changed over to Shell.
Many brands such as Motul, Motorex and so on have gotten out of touch with reality in terms of pricing and lets be honest we change oil every 6000k's, we want a little more bang for our buck.
Let's be honest, in this day and age most oil meet set standards, choice one that fits your budget and meets manufacturers specs, you'll be fine.    Phil

What would you recommend for brake fluids?
Rather than the Suzuki brake fluid, my local Suzuki is 30minute drive away and I can probably get better brake fluids for same price closer. Can I use any dot4 brake fluid?
Is bleeding brakes on a bike the same Concept as on a car?

I try to use Ampol dot 4 fluid as its a blue colour and you can see it work through the system, as for the concept of bleeding brakes, yes I'd say its the same, I do need to bleed my across brakes shortly, I will do up a how to guide over the wekeend and post it up with pics, stay  tuned.

the only engine oil i have ever run in road bike is Mobil 1 Racing 4T, even have it in my GSX250F now

awesome stuff. gear changes are a breeze and on bigger bikes, the engine temp usualy drops.
i remember when i first dropped it in to my 2000 VFR some years ago, engine temp dropped by 7 degrees celcius just by changing to Mobil 1 Racing 4T.

the best place to buy it is your local distributer. not a motorcycle shop.fireup google and go hunting for them.
