Its not a noise.. well it is but thats not my concern. My concern is that there is no cover on my exup valve. I look down and I can see the disc and the forks and all. No cover, 3 screw threads that have no corresponding bolts, or even anything to bolt on. The valve bit - attached to the wires, when I saw it, was dangling off the peg that it turns. I'm a bit scared about this, I know it won't stay on without a dampener washer and bolt... But do I need the cover over this? I'd post a pic but, alas, no camera.

Actually, heres something:

Everything around the exup is there (not sure about other nearby screws tho), but 13, 14, 16, 17, and 18 don't exist.
Also, the 'forks' are about 8 degrees counter-clockwise to the nearby screwhole (I think its a screwhole for a device to lock the exup), when I hear they shoud be over the hole, or boz says the forks should be a few degrees clockwise to the screwhole.
Yeah, the bike is missing bolts
Looks like I'll need to go 'screw hunting'
But yeah, no cover over the valve.. Is this a big problem? (I KNOW that the valve-missing-bolt (13 and 14 in the image) issue is baaad - the valve turner..thing just falls off..)

Hi, well I'm very new to the FZR250, had mines a week now and it is also without a cover so I am interested in seeing the replies. I liked the Fiche of the Exhaust system, can you tell me where you managed to get hold of it as I am having a few issues getting hold of a few parts from my local Yamaha dealer, R1's no problem but Import 250's and they are not interested.

Regards,

Alan.

That isn’t the FZR250 exhaust in the drawing just to let you know, my guess is the 400. Yeah I would get that bolt in if I where you, going to find new exup parts from a wreaker is going to be allot more expensive if it all decides to fall out mid corner.

The cover isn’t that important to the operation, my guess it is just keeping all of the road grime, water and associated **** away from he moving parts. That being said I would replace it.

not the 250 exhaust? well I wouldn't know, It looks an awful lot like mine, but mines modded. That said, the exup is the same, and I only use the pic so I can reference the correct parts.
So a wrecker? No new parts for it? It looks like the cover has been off for some time, and the bolt must have been missing for a bit.. In fact I wonder how the previous owner even rode with the exup permanently locked on! The actual VALVE (part 4) stays in, its the bolt and, I assume a metal dampening washer (part 13 and 14) that isn't there, so the 'turner' (part 12) just slips off - but the cables hold it there.

I tightened and adjusted it, and now the fork is about 3 degrees above the hole. Perfect. The servo grunted a bit at first, so I added a bit of slack and boom, it's working great.

Mine came without cables or cover but I have had cables in now for 5 months with no ill effects (so far).

Someone needs to make a mould and knock up a few cheap fibreglass covers for us.

Hm, I guess I'll leave it for the time being - I mean the cover, I'll put that middle bolt and washer in asap.

The bike is missing some bolts for the skirts around the seat, and the engine cover is missing like 4 botlts too. The fuel tank needs two bolts too!

Did this guy eat bolts or something?

Also, I read that the FZR's need a battery with reverse terminals, but oddly enough I swear this bike could fit the connectors both ways without modification. Aside from that, this bike is in good nick. New motor, front pads a little low, but thats it. Nice.
Uncle called it 'black beauty' - I think thats a little too gay. I'll call it.. Uh. How bout Trogdor the Burninator. Rofl XD.

I hope you are talking about the fuel cap flange because the petrol tank is only held on by two bolts. Just remember that the bolts that hold on the cap aren’t all the same length.

If you just want a cheap fix go down to the local fastener shop, they may not have a matching head but they will only set you back about 5c a piece.

Might be an idea to get some loctite as well so no more of your bolts rattle out.

Yes its the fuel cap - I'll look into the different size thing.. They don't leak out of it though (so no evapouration problems). Tank is rusty, and I'm in the middle of cleaning/rustproofing with TBones method.
But now you mention it, the tank also needs both fastener bolts (they're missing too). Don't think any of them rattled out, the owner was just an idiot. Who looked like Vin Diesil's brother, so I didn't mention too much about anything to him. He was real big..

Ok I am going to recommend not riding this bike until you can be sure it’s not going to fall apart on you. Last thing you want to do is drop the bike and have the fuel hoses rip out and start a fire.

lol I had no intention of riding this bike till I had it all done up. I knew its flaws, but not to the extent of the exup. The engine is fine, and the front end all looks good now, with the exup done back up (minus the fastener - tomorrow is another day)
I took everything off, so the bike is naked.
Did an oil & filter change, even though I'm pretty sure that he changed it real recently (It's black, but only when viewed in a pool. It was clear-syrupy on my hands, which indicates it was pretty new. Oil gets almost black in just a few days).
Collant redone, cams cleaned (thanks for the info on that subaru stuff), and the wiring was all checked out. The only real problem is the lack of bolts.
Seriously, who skimps on bolts!?

Oh and the rust in the tank thing.. That's disgusting - sounds like sand in there!

The spray stuff won’t clean your cams. It can only get to the intake and exhaust manifolds + the combustion chamber. You shouldn’t have to clean your cams anyway, they are all covered in oil. Unless you are talking about the valves then you would be right.
