i've been riding on the road 3weeks now and just had my 1st slide
the car in front of me had pulled over with out inicating so i waited a few seconds and went to over take just as i did they turned right so ive braked and slid away
should have know better really if they pulled over without indicating they're just as likely to turn without it
lucky i was only going 20-30ks
lesson learned
i rode home ok and just had at look at the damage
ME: got a bit of graze on my knee (was wearing jeans) and my sholders and but sore from impact and theres a good red mark there but the skin is still there ( was wearing leather jacket no armor though)
show the differece leather makes

BIKE: not sure what it is the bit that sticks out the fairing on the left with yamaha machined in is scratched a bit (which will motivate me to pollish is up because the last guy that had it sprayed it black)
and the inicator is scratched up
and the fairing has a small crack in it

but now my next investment will be some good pants so i wanna ask leathers or draggin jeans?
i like the jeans because i'll still be able to wear the round if going out but how are the compared to leater?
has anyone come off wearing them?

and after that skid pegs for the bike are the ok to mount off the fairing mouting screw that closest to your knee or will i have to make a new how the goes straight from the frame?

oh yeah one other thing that just came to mind when my bike was on its side fuel leaked out from the fuel cap should there be a seal in there to stop this?

I've never used them myself, but there are various versions of draggin' jeans with increased abrasion resistance. There are one or two vendors out there flogging light-duty armour that fits under jeans, draggin; or otherwise. My own great preference (even for commuting to/from the office) is full race-class leathers, but I've also retired one suit from energetic appreciation of its qualities (also known as an enthusiastic re-distribution of gravity). I look at the suit, and envision what my various tender parts would've looked like without the leather...

Long story short - anything is better than gym shorts, wife beater, and flip-flops; somethings are better yet than others.

Be very careful about frame sliders. I've seen one improperly constructed version (metal loading surfaces!! ) actually dig in and LAUNCH the bike, turning a minor lowside into a complete write-off. Delrin is your friend. Also, the FZR does not lend itself to mounting the usual designs. I've heard from one or two 600 riders who had the slider rip itself (and the mounting point) out of the frame, leaving unsightly holes in the side of the bike.

Speaking of unsightly holes, the part you referred to is your starter cover. Not insignificant, but so long as it's oil-tight all is still well.

Sounds like you came away fairly lucky. Some people say to ride like you're invisible; other more cynical souls adovcate riding like the cagers are actively out to run you down...

Oh, yeah - the fuel (hopefully) leaked out the vent hole. A fully-sealed tank would quickly suck a vacuum and stop flowing fuel. Oddly, this is exactly what happens when the vent gets fouled.

The draggin jeans will help with preventing skin loss, no risk. The are thicker in the knees and bum than regular jeans, because of those kevlar patches sewn in, but I reckon if you hit the ground hard, it will still hurt. I wear them for warm weather rides and nearly always wear thermals underneath unless the temperature is over 20deg c.

If it looks like being under 15deg most of the day I wear these, always with the thermals underneath to stop them sticking to my skin. They have hard knee protection and reasonable thigh and lower back protection pads.

As for the frame sliders see if there is anthing commercially made to suit the bike and if not make sure anything you bolt on is substantially mounted, mine uses hi tensile bolts.
