Front brake re-furb

    Finally my calliper seal came in today so continued to thoroughly cleaned all parts today before i fit the new rubbers ect.The small window that shows how much fluid was broken (you cant buy a new one) so i cleaned out all the bits left over and glued in a ONE cent coin with areldite.I have seen this done before and its still good after 5 years,just remove the top cover to check fluid.in my case this will be a temp until i can afford $300 or find a full repiacement master cylinder...Ken

    lucite is a stronger plexiglass.if you could cut a circle could also araldite in. comes in varying thickness.

    mate what size are your bars? should be able to find you a spare at a fraction of the cost..........

    Well,Waisted half a day after work and my nap,Put new seal in calliper and dust boot re-mounted on forks,connected lower part of brake line to the calliper with new sealing washers.Installed new kit in master and mounted and topped up with fluid.on pumping the lever/holding it in and releasing the calliper bleed screw which i have a tube going into a spare bottle of brake fluid-after doing this 5 times with no resistance i grabbed a syringe and tried back bleeding.IE.pushing brake fluid back through the bleed screw up to the master.This failed so i removed the master and the new seals and all is correct.When there is fluid in the master and my finger over the brake hose hole,get good pressure with fluid squirting past my thumb-so what can i try to get a positive feel on the brake lever...the bike in question is my 83 gsx...Ken

    could need to replace the brake line as they can deteiorate inside. put a zip tie to hold the lever in overnite and see what happens. have you cleaned the fluid return hole?

    Hi Risky,while i remember can you have two avatars because i miss chuckling at your old one-Back to subject,I cleaned everything in brake clean fluid and used the compressor to clear all orifices(holes).In the master there was only one small hole where the fluid exits to go down the brake line,there is another small hole which has NOT been drilled all the way through,this is right next to the first hole and i blew the brake line out before i started.Whene i took out the bleed screw and pumped the lever i could here fluid sloshing around in the calliper.

    kiffsta changed my avatar aftyer the deisel fuel incident and i asked him for a pirate one as he could not find the skinny naked one.my picture is on the vjmc thread.talking from my experience the little one hole could be blocked as i feel it is the return hole or is on a honda.last susie i rode had drum brakes!it could be a stuck caliper piston so take m/c lid off and push piston in with a g clamp and may clean the hole out. could be swollen internal brake line or hard caliper seals so piston is not pushed back in by torsional twist.

    tie the lever in tonite and see what happens.undo in mornining and may have self bled.

    if does not work.... take bleeder valve out and fill caliper with brake fluid from syringe. do up caliper bleeder and with m/.c top off press piston in with g clamp and see where fluid comes out.

    the old 5c trick is horrid, get some clear plastic (like the stuff they use to package cheap tools) cut it out into a circle x2... mix some araldite thoroughly and then get a g-clamp into position sandwiching the alarldite between the clear plastic ... leave it for 2 days minimum = big success.

    lucite is far better....it is what they use in aircraft windows including jet fighters. can be bought where plexiglass is sold.....do not need brake failure being cheap.

    Well guys,Where we live in Wentworth the gz (green bike) is parked there along with our cars ect and all the other bikes are on our 6 acre block locked up in a shed which is 20 ks away so i did not want to go back and tie the brake lever to the handle ba(to assist in bleeding over-night) and going by the mood i was in,not a good idea.So today i went to the "shed" started the air compressor took off the calliper and gently blew out the piston and checked the seal ect-put it all back together and with the help of my tractor mate we bled the whole system in minutes-whent for a carefull and slow ride to test and make sure every thing was good, no leaks-no grabbing-all good so off i went...What a joy-I know its not a weapon like some of you blokes have but a thrill and a lot different than my gz.so many thanks to you all for your imput-and Cal,i have started to make a new fluid resevour window...Ken
