Hey I just got my hands on a replacement fuel cap (with no key) and I need to know what model/Part # of key it takes. I never had a working fuel cap for my bike in the 1st place, so I don't know what it should look like, other than that it should look like a key... Id like to know because i'm having some difficulty getting a key cut to fit. Thanks M
Ask the local dealership what locksmith they deal with. He should have a supply of blanks, and can re-work your cap lock to match your ignition key.
Should of got a non-keyed racing fuel cap. Just take the cap into a locksmith and they will knock one up, but it won't be as cheap as it should be.
If someone has an aftermarket/replacement key for their gascap, I just need the generic numeric code off of it so that I can get a blank. I think that a racing gas cap is too vulnerable in the city.
If you take the cap to a lock smith they will know what type of key goes into it, they will try a few blanks in it and then cut one to suit. Im pretty sure that these locks are no re-keyable.. Please someone correct me if im wrong but im under the belief that they arnt relocatable pins. Again, what area are you from as most locksmiths wont stock blank keys for old motorbikes.. I know of a top place in Moonee Ponds, Melbourne, VIC... I got my bike key copied there no dramas...
Ya the problem is that im in Canada, there isnt much dealership support for these bikes locally. Ive got a pretty good locksmith looking at it and he didn't seem to recognize the key shape immediately. Were these caps the same on the other FZR's of the same era?
All the one-piece-tank FZR/YZFs used pretty much the same cap. Like I said - ask the dealership which locksmith they deal with; he should be able to sort you out.
If it helps, my fuel cap key is aftermarket - "Silca" branded with YH3OR stamped on it. Don't ask me if that's a capital o or a zero...
I got everything all tidied up. the key code is actually stamped someplace discrete inside the inner workings of the cap. the key needed was an ilco X117, YH48 Thanks M
