Hi peoples!! I'm back with another question....FUEL CONSUMPTION!! I seem to be getting quite good fuel consumption out of my bike, or so i thought.... here is my little problem: Yesterday morning I started my bike and it warmed up normally then it started to idle slower and slower, and i knew i must be close to my reserve as i was expecting this so i swithced it over to reserve and all was good so i went and fuled up on the way to work. When i had fueld up i switched it back from reserve to normal fuel and took off..got about 2 ks down the road and the engine pitch changed, it got deeper and rougher, kinda like a ducati (well not quite but it got deeepr ) and the more throttle i gave it the less it would rev, or go until it just died... so once again i was on the side of the road having a ciggie waiting....waiting....ok 10 minutes i'll try and start her up again.. awy she goes but still very rough and running rough as!! after about1k or so she picked up and the engine went back to normal and she was fine after that...... then today same thing.....coming home, knew i was getting close to reserve and this time the engine thing happened again, it slowed down and ran like a dogs breakfast, so i switched to reserve and got to a servo, fuled up and away i went and no dramas....

now i would have thought that, ok fair enough i hit reserve and it was struggling for fuel HOWEVER both times it only took about 9 litres to fill up??? i thought i would have got to about 11 litres atleast before i needed to switch to reserve??

so yeah any ideas or feedback once again would be great guys

by the way, i am getting between 145-150 k's out of 9 litres.

The 3LN fuel tank is listed at 14L with reserve at 3.8L that makes 10.2L before needing to switch over.

One possible cause is that you might be experiencing a fuel pump issue - tank gets low, not much fuel getting to carbs, more you open throttle the less fuel air you get..

Ah ha no worries...some specs i have looked up have said that the 3LN tanks are 14L with 2.8 as reserve... but if it is 3.8 litres then this would make more sense...

Dave what do you mean by fuel air?? Sorry mate but i am an absolute noobhead at the moment when it comes to bikes...actually most engines come to think of it

Fuel air - Sorry I was in hurry when I wrote the previous reply.. probably a very bad way to express that when the carbs get low on fuel that the air/fuel ratio starts to get lean, and the engine does not have much power.. The more you try to open up the throttle, the lower the fuel level in the float bowls gets and worse the performance gets.
