hi i was juss wondering how the reserve and main fuel works. are they together in one tank and how can i tell which tubes are the reserve 1 and the main 1! i sold my bike to a mate and he is havign a problem with it. When he cranks it over it idles perfect , then when he goes in gear the bike will die out. but if he switches it to reserve it is fine. this is all in a full tank aswell, so we have no idea why it is doing this!! any help?

For the 2kr - I assume it will be the same for other bikes...

The reserve and normal fuel taps come from the same tank. Inside the tank there are two tubes - one for each tap. The normal tap tube extends higher inside the tank, and the reserve fuel tap tube is only minimally above the bottom of the tank. Thus when you are running on normal tap the fuel that is being brought through the machine is from about 3 cm's from the bottom of the tank. When you switch to reserve the fuel is being brought from the near the bottom of the tank. It is a rather simple but effective solution to give a reserve tank.

It may be possible that your normal tube is clogged with something, and that the reserve tube isn't. I would simply say drain the tank (either ride it out, or actually drain it), and take off the tank and check out the tubes.

However I would not know why it would idle fine, but stop in gear. Only thought I had was perhaps there is just enough fuel to go through when idling...

Ummm I think Boz is on the correct path, drain the tank then take it off the bike or take the tank off the bike and then drain it. Then flip it upside down on grass or something that wont scratch the tank. Know unbolt where the fuel lines enter the tank, if they are pozi drive bolts like mine u may need a impact screwdriver to get them undone. Now try and get all that tar and other crap that comes with fuel out of the tank. U could get a air compressor and spray kero into the tank under high pressuer blasting all the crap out of the tank draining out the bottom. If it still isnt clean block up that fuel line hole and put some fuel or kero into the tank and put some some-ish light stones into the tank and close the filler cap and shake. This will losen and crap stuck to the walls of the inside of the tank. Then unbolt the fuel line hole and open fuel filler and spray kero and clean it out again getting all the crap out. Once clean bolt everything up and again and then check both fuel lines that exit the tank and enter the fuel tap, making sure they will flow easyly. If the problem is still there then check the tap, clean it and make sure working properly.

    Hope that helps
