Help FZX250 how to fit air filter on 4 carbs

    Hey people,

    Just realised my air filter is not properly sealed on my 4 carbs, so I removed the tank unloose the metal bracket around the four rubber and try to fit them on the carbs intake.

    But that's mission impossible, I hurt my finger so bad I tought it was broken by pushing the whole air filter box on the carbs.
    There is marks underneath showing on the 4 rubber hose should be aligned to the carbs, so that's alright but still super hard to fit.

    I realised I can remove each hose from the air filter box, then fix them on the carb one by one ( even one by one, it needs a lot of strength to make them for) then tight the metal ring.
    But with this method when I try to put the whole box on top, the hose just detach one by one.

    I'm pretty sure there should be a better technique for this ... Do you use any grease or oil to make it easier ? However I'm not a fan of putting grease inside my carbs.

    It sounds like your air box rubber boots have shrunk and gone hard with age. The best fix is to replace them. If that isn't an option, you can remove them entirely and soak in hot water to soften them temporarily, but they will have to be fitted quickly before they go hard again.

    Ohhh yeah that make sense, I tought it couldn't be that hard. Will try that hot water technique

    I replaced my rubbers as well. You can't imagine how smooth and easy they then slide on the carbs.
    I used a hot air fan everytime before, but that is temporary ****. If they are getting older the day will come, when they wouldn't fit anymore, and if they fit, they will slide of the carbs or will not seal anymore.

    Man ....
    You can't imagine the satisfaction you brought me today ....

    Put the all end of the air box filter in boiling water for 10 second, I touched them and they were like butter.

    I lost 2 hours and one of my finger yesterday, and today was sliding like into butter. What a satisfaction, I feel so stupid.


    Definitely no need to buy new one in my case.
    I feel you, make these rubber lose it's a game changer.

    Cheers once again, the kind of thing you wouldn't know without encountering the problem yourself.
