Hey guys. Got a question for you wise spannerers. Ive got a stator cover gasket for my zxr250 that i fitted originally. When i was picking up some bits and pieces at the wreckers, they told me to grease both sides of the gasket. So i did. It leaked. It probably didnt help that my mate tore the gasket while trynna help me. Ive now got a new gasket, and the bloke at RB imports tells me that grease is DEFINITELY NOT ON, and that youve gotta get it super clean, because the gasket has a bonding agent that will seal when it heats up. This was my orignal perception. What is the consensus on this. Obrigado
The guys at the wreckers should grease up their spanners and stick them up their ***** Of course wreckers dismantle things and are experienced at taking stator covers off .... not putting them on
If the machined surfaces have any damage (ie scratched or gouged) and you're worried the gasket won't seal, you could try a thin smear of Triple Bond 1207B/1104, Solvol Blue Hylomar or a similar liquid gasket on the surfaces before you fit the gasket. Just enough to fill any scratches etc.
