G'day Team 2 days ago I bought a second hand Kawasaki Balius ZR250 1994. I'm fresh to riding and know nothing about maintenance. All I know is how to ride it up and down street as I have no decent gear yet. Hopefully getting some this weekend. I'm already very impressed by the community on this website and how much info there is available to newbies like me. Also the friendliness of people here is amazing. I'm super excited to get involved in the forum and learn as much as I can because I'm sure this place would help me substantially through my riding journey. So anyway hope to be conversing and asking you guys a couple of questions soon!! Will post a couple of pics of the bike when I get the chance. Cheers Seb
Welcome! Maintenance... items you should check weekly if not more often: Tyre pressure Tyre tread / objects stuck in tyres Oil level Coolant level Grease chain Adjust chain (not too tight, or it will stretch, you tighten it again, stretch again etc... a little loose is better than a little tight) Brake pad thickness front & rear As for engine maintenance, If you plan to pull it to pieces as I've had to do with my FZR, tools are a good investment. Start with a compression test and go from there.
Cheers for that The balius seems to be running fine in terms of engine from what I can see only thing I've noticed is that it idles at different revs when I lean it to the left or right at a stand still. Not by much maybe 700rpm. I'm guessing this has something to do with the different holes for the fuel in the carbys and where the fuel sits when the bike is leaned to each side. Complete newbie here so I could be terribly wrong but otherwise starts well and seems to run well. Thanks
Thanks will check them out. Looking at getting a carb seal kit to maybe spruce them up a little as I doubt the carbys have had a touch or a clean since 2007 as the owner was a weekend rider that didn't make much use of the bike.
Welcome from across the 'ditch'. Some great roads you have over there. Ask away, it is the best way to attain knowledge and getting your hands dirty is the best way to learn. As always in life, ask for plenty of opinions then make your own decisions.
Welcome mate remember when buying gear if u have a $5 head buy a $5 helmet lol buy the best u can as this stuff will save ur life happy riding
I didn't want to save money on gear. Bought a decent middle level helmet. and the rest of the gear. 1 Grands worth so I thought that seemed okay.
