    guys

i noticed this morning i have an oil leak from the stator cover, the left engine cover on the engine.

i would have thought the stator was supposed to be dry

i will have a read thru the service manual and i might have to remove the cover tonight and see what is going on

keep my fingers crossed if i have to replace a seal i dont have to totally disassemble the motor to replace the seal

anyone had this before.any thoughts/ideas on it?

i had a quick look thru the manual.looks like i need to pop the stator cover off, remove the stator and behind it is a half moon shape bit of steel held in with 2 screws. remove that half moon device and behind it is an oring, or supposed to be.
i suspect this o-ring is perished.i will investigate tonight

well i pulled the stator cover off and had a look, i got a few cup full of oil out. i noticed right at the the bottom of the engine where the stator is,there is a hole about 1 centimeter high and 5 centimeters long.looks like oil is supposed to come in/out thru there.i can see thru the hole and see the crank turn over

so looks like my gasket might be a bit dodgey

after removing the gasket off the stator cover and using gasket sealant round the machines faces and putting gasket back in, let engine idle till it gets hot enough for the cooling fan to kick in, theres no oil leak

i had a good read thru the service manual and found a diagram of the oil passages.there is oil that goes to the starter clutch.
this clutch is under the stator cover
so it looks like oil is supposed to be all thru there.

well there you go. anther really strange idea from suzuki. every other motorcycle i have owned/worked on the stator is dry.

    anyhow, mystery solved
