Hi all have a '91 Suzi Across im trying to get on the road. Im almost there.

*Having trouble getting it to fire. I'm wondering if maybe I have NOT got the leads on the right plugs. i have searched the web for a pic but unable to find one suitable.

*Choke Cable is also seized up but having a little trouble figuring out how to get the bugger off at the carbies?

    Any help would be appreciated

Hi James , welcome to the community !

On the inline 4s , 1 coil fires 1 and 4 cylinder and the other coil 2 and 3
Follow the leads from the coils to the plug ...... usually the length of the lead roughly dictates which goes where , if they havnt been messed with.

The choke cable will probably have a bracket with a screw holding the outer in place , which, when thats off , should allow u to detach the cable end.

    Hi James
Welcome to the Forum. Good choice in bikes, very found of the Across, ticks a lot of boxes.:thumb_ups:
Grey has covered the leads question, as for the choke, follow the cable from the lever down to the carbs.

    Hi james

From memory its a 12mm or 14mm bolt on an angle near where the airbox conencts to the carbs, unscrew both of them from the carby assembly and the choke plunger will come out with the cable, I suggest putting some tape on the end to keep the plunger on the cable as its spring loaded and can "pop" off ( i lost a spring once when this happened) . Have a look in the resources section of the forum for the Across workshop manual, there is a pic for the plugs and coils

    thanks

    Chris

hi Darren, at a standstill atm. I was talking to a bike mechanic last week who told me basically to throw the carbies away and get some from wreckers etc. went to Vic Wreck and well they had plenty but wanted $250 which just was'nt going to happen right now. i then found a good video on You Tube so i'm planning on having a go myself. i've always avoided working on carbies cos...well i don't know $%^&it. Anyway i figure at this point i have nothing to lose and can get more when funds become available.
Hey is there anyone on here that reco's carbies?
I might be in the market for reconditioned ones rather than some off the shelf from the wreckers

    Hi James
Understand your frustrations with carbs, they can be the cause of massive frustration to many. What intrigues me is your mechanics statement, sling them and get another set???????? What is wrong with them, are parts missing, are they broken or are they simply filthy and require some TLC.
Do yourself a big favour, use this forum to your advantage, put an add in the wanted section for some carbs, you might be surprised what comes back. Secondly, ask for some advise from members, think you'll get plenty of help, that's what the forum is all about.:thumb_ups: Remember James, we're here to help, not to hinder. Good luck mate!!

    What Phil said .....

Most mechanics dont want to know old bikes and certainly not old carbys.

As long as they arnt physically damaged on the outside then a good clean and strip down , o rings replaced etc and they should be fine.
Carbs can be a bit daunting but like anything u pull apart ,photos first , marked bags or containers for the screws and bits and a manual and/or a parts schematic , plus help from us here and you will be fine.
If u have 4 carbs then u have 4 seperate work areas ..... keeping things in order is the key.

If u are thinking of secondhand or even reconditioned then you may find they need work anyway.
The guy I bought my bike off said "the carbs have been done" ...... have a look at My Fizzer thread and u can see they were very ordinary inside.
At least practice with the ones u have now.

First thing to do is take some photos of the problem areas ...... if they are crusted up or rusty then show us and maybe we can give u a starting point.
Again look at my threads on cleaning especially the ultrasonic cleaning on the carbs.

Hi James, I'm going through a very similar process as you with many of the same issues right down to the choke cable difficulties. I've stripped and cleaned my carbs half a dozen times but am still having problems starting and running the bike.

Anyway I thought I might be able to help you with the process even though mine is still stuffed so if you need any pics or instructions I can take photos or send you directions.

Did you sort out the spark plug lead order? It's in the manual towards the end in amongst cable routing diagrams, took ages before I stumbled across it. From memory the order goes L to R, top to bottom 1, 4, 2, 3 - might pay to double check it. I can send a pic as well if you want.

    Good luck!
    Brad
