Hi all, I have a FZR 250 that I have put a turbo on! Will be going to Bonneville salt flats late next week to put it to the test. I took it out for a run last week and was able to pull it up to 200kmh. (ran out of room). It was running great my boost was sitting at 8psi. It is a single carberator draw through into a home built intake manifold. So far so good! I will try to post some pictures as well as some results from the salt Cheers Nick
Hey Nick Sounds like a great project, I was recently reading about an aussie guy here who rode a Honda CBR250RR on the salt flats in South Australia, he managed 119mph , what sort of gearing are you using ? Chris
Hi Nick Very impressive figures from your fzr 250, I for one would love to see some pictures of this beast, particularly your intake manifold with a single carb?? Curious, what size carb are you using and what sort of turbo? Guess I'll have to wait for your return from Utah to see the results. Good luck and be safe.
Hi mate .... yes lots pf pics and a report on how u go on the salt would be great "The Worlds Fastest Fizzer"
When I tested my bike I had stock gearing and an oversize tire. 130/90/17. I am going to put a 54 tooth sprocket on the rear which if all goes well I should go close to 130 mph (with the stars aligned). I will try to post some pictures of my bike and such soon Nick
Well I am back from the salt. We had lots of fun and success. I was able to get 2 records! After we got through tech I ran my first run. I was able to do a 122.438 and my clutch was slipping bad. Put a new clutch in and ran again. I ran a 127.002. The next morning I ran my backup run at 126.213. Back to impound to do a cc check. The engine came out, head off and checked out just fine. Back together it goes. Ran again with my last gear set and made a 129.448 mph run (my fastest run). Back to impound for the night. The next morning I did my return run at 125.981 mph. All in all we did great and the bike came home running. I am already looking forward to next year! I am going torun the boost up and get a bunch of rear sprockets so I can dial in my top speed. Hoping to get an aftermarket full fairing to help with the aerodynamics. Next year my goal is 150mph . It might be a stretch but you have to go big. Not sure how to post pics. As soon as I figure it out I will put some up Nick
Awesome Nick, I heard there was a kiwi there who hit 133 mph, but its not clear what 250 he was on, I think his name was Corey
Yea There team is Salt bros. racing. They are in a different class as there bike is classed as a production race bike. They are A/G 250. I am running M/BG 250. Salt bros are still on the salt now. They are running in the bub meet which is all motorcycles. Sounds like they got 2 more records this past week.
Congratulations on your 2 records, sounds like you did really well on the salt. Your best at nearly 130 miles an hour is a great effort, well done. We hope to see some photos of your exploits soon, great effort.
salt racers in australia race at lake gardener in south aussie. ever thought of coming out here with the bike for an aussie record?i would hate to ride at those speeds so goodonya.
There are quite a few racers from the US come to our salt races each year. Some leave their vehicles here for a couple of years and fly in. More info at www.dlra.org.
while on the subject of forced induction on small bikes, check this out in regards to the application of a tiny little roots blower on several cafe racers and other assorted bikes, not a bad alternate to turbo? http://www.elsberg-tuning.dk/supercharging.html
Funny story...... The picture of that crazy looking red ct70 is mine. It has a 175 cc motor supercharger is driven off the crank. I was running methanol the last time I ran it the fastest it ran on the salt was 81 mph. Tricky business
top reading...now i have a roots supercharger in the shed off an old cummins diesel. how do i fit it in the megelli as it is bigger than the motor....?
