My 2kr idles very high (between 4 - 5 k) i was informed by Mr Mordred too change the idle setting on the bike, but he never told me where that was :p . However, if i hold the clutch at friction point for a while, then bring it in slowly, it idles normally.

I was told it could be a return spring? by one my mates.

    Any one else got ideas?

Also, what is a good chain lube to use, and how often should i lube the chain?

    Thanks,
    Rhys

your idle speed screw is the big one in the middle of carby2&3, screwing it out or anti clockwise will lower the speed, it is possible that its a little sticky/rusted or watever r the spring is gone, what u can do is try and spray some crc around the throttle mechanism and give the throttle a few twists and see if that helps. otherwise try running the engine and manually moving the mechanism the throttle cables move and if you can make the idle speed drop its possible your throttl cables are too slack or even too tight so try adjusting them so that there is only a small amount of play

    Hmm... high idle.

How long has it been idling high? Has it been serviced recently?
The throttle stop (idle speed adjust) is on the right has side of the bike just above where you put the oil in. It's a little twist knob thing that you can do with either a screwdriver or by hand.

I'm more curious as to the bit where you say you slip the clutch, and it'll settle down. By my reckoning that sounds like something isnt quite right.

Is the bike down on power? (Cam timing may be out)
Does the engine ping at all? (Possibly running lean)
What sort of fuel economy do you get out of it? (Again.. may be either of the above)

i think is maybe out of tune, i dont get great fuel economy, but i assume thats because its always idling so high, it doesn't ping.

im going to book it for a service next week, i dont want to damage it by fiddling and i dont think this is a job i can do myself just yet.

any one for chain lube? what type, how often?

The idle circuits in the carbs supply almost a negligable amount of fuel to the engine compared to the other circuits / jets whenever the throttle is more than slightly open. I doubt it'd have a significant affect on your fuel efficiency.
But it would be an indication that the rest of the carbs might be out of tune...

    ~ Every 500km's give it a lube.
~ Every 1000km's give it a clean and a lube.

If you change chain & sprockets every 5000km's... can i buy your old chains & sprockets? Just that i could sell them on eBay for 'AS NEW'.
Seriosuly, 5000km's is a decent life for a non-ring chain. For an O-ring or X-ring chain... that's abysmal! You should be getting about 2 rear tyre's for every one set of chain and sprockets - or atleast thats my way of thinking.

If your a helter skelter rider with a couple of teeth down off the front, and you can chew up a medium-hard rear tyre on a 250 in under 8000km's then your looking at chain & sprockets every 16,0000-20,000km's. If you baby your bike around and don't ride it very hard... your likely to get about 12,000-15,000 km's out of a rear tyre... and as such chain & sprockets every 25,000-30,000km's.

All of the above guesstimations are based on the assumption that you actually maintain your chain and sprockets on a regular basis! If you neglect it, let the chain dry and gum up then you'll murder even a good O/X-ring chain in 6000km's.

There's THREE things you need to do for chain maintanence not two.
Why oh why does everyone forget to check the chain tension!? An excessively loose or tight chain will actually do about the same amount of damage if not more as not lubing it at all!

i took my bike to a mechanic to get a look at, turns out the previous owner tried to seal one of the gaskets with a sealant that wasnt petrol resistant. the carbies have been getting filled with **** from the sealant and petrol making a huge mess. all the floats are destroyed. there is also petrol in my oil.

luck i just bought a new set of carbies.

does anyone know if any other carbies fit on the fzr?

Change the oil before you ride the bike again. Don't want you or the bike going boom...
